I am thinking about Lap Band surgery. One day I know it is right for me and the next day I wonder if I can do it. A liquid diet for 2 weeks! I'm not a planner and planning meals ahead of time is a little strange for me. I am 100 lbs overweight and know I need to lose but this is pretty drastic. I did try one of the Unjury Protein Shakes. Their pretty good. Any advise?

Hi Sue  Yep, this is a big decision! It's normal to go back and forth regarding the changes that must be made, should you choose surgery. What I'd advise first is to really research this procedure. Have you been to a seminar yet? I've read a lot of posts on here where a person is very close to their surgery date or even post op and they just don't understand the lapband "rules". I don't know if their surgeon's office was lax in preparing them or if they just weren't pro-active enough in understanding this tool. But, I really advise being pro-active. Do internet searches, read books, articles, find out the do's and don'ts of the band.

After all the research...make a list or pro's and con's. Read and re-read your list and take some time to decide if you're mentally, emotionally, and physically ready to make these changes.

No change comes without some kind of sacrifice. Only you can decide what you're willing to sacrifice in order to get healthy.

Best wishes in whatever you decide

Welcome, Sue. I know what you mean. I lurked on this site for many months before making my decision. I actually went through a period of mourning anticipating my changed relationship with food!

I have no regrets.

All the best with your journey.

Welcome to LBT! I was the same as you at first, and thought I would have to give up everything I loved to eat. I eat just about anything I want, just in smaller amounts.

I sat down and started reading all the threads on LBT, and learned so much from just doing that. I started to understand more about the band and what I could and couldn't do. That is how I made my final decision to be banded. I would suggest you take some time and start reading and see what you think.

Good Luck!

Hi Sue, and welcome to LBT! I was not too thrilled when I heard about the liquid diet either. But, you know what, it really wasn't that bad. The first 3 days were tough, but once I got past them I was fine. Normally I have a rule that I only allow myself to get on the scale once a week. But, during the liquid diet, I got on the scale every day. It was a huge motivator seeing the pounds literally drop off every day while on the liquid diet. Plus, knowing my reward would be the band also really helped.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
