Can someone help me out? Drinking water isn't easy...

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I can drink other liquids, like juices and skim milk, but Water always hurts me for some reason. Is it because I drink it too fast? I put bottles of cold Water in the refrigerator to drink. I seem to burp quite a bit after drinking water, and it bugs me.

2 weeks post-op. Maybe I just have to drink slower?

I was told that any liquid was just fine it did not have to be Water so that any tea or coffee I drank counted. Also the Protein Drinks I could stomach I could only do so if I mixed the ready made drinks blended with equal volumes of ice.My dietician told me that this also counted as liquid as did any no sugar fruit squash.Once I stopped obsessing about forcing water down I was quite easily able to drink the required amount of liquid.Pippinleicester

I am six months post op and still can not tolerate plain Water. It gives me pain too. I had to keep trying different things until I found something that worked for me. I now drink peach flavored propel- it goes down the easiest. Just hang in there and just keep trying different things. I also can drink Sobe water and Vitamin water. Before surgery my favorite drink was plain water; sometimes I miss chugging down a big bottle of water!!

I tried another bottle of Water. I'm not sensing much pain, but I still burp quite a bit from it.

I wonder, why do you think burps happen more often with Water? I didn't chug it down or anything.. oh well, I hope this doesn't last super long.

I drink plain Water as well. At first I had t have it at room temp, but now I prefer it ice cold. However I still have to sip, sip, sip. Now that I am mostly eating regular food, I make the rudest burps! I assume it's the gas from filling such a small space. I'd rather burp than have heartburn or gas pains.

I guess everyone is different. I have no issues with Water at all. I am starting week 4 post surgery and its seems like water is getting easier and easier to get down. I still suffer from the belching, but its not nearly as bad as the belching from just simple bloating or eating. As some others would say just sip the water a bit slower than you are doing and don't try to over do it. Its weir how some things work okay for some while others struggle.

I've heard this is called "water nausea" and it happened to me too. Although it didn't make me nauseous to drink Water, it just actually kind of hurt... the only way to describe it would be to say that Water felt too "hard" like it just landed in my new tummy with a bang. It took about a month before I could drink it again. But on the plus side, most surgeons don't care if it's water, they just want you to get in your liquids. So just keep sipping on other liquids you can tolerate. Another thing to consider is that for some reason, room temperature or warm liquids go down easier for many many people after surgery.

And here's the other weird thing. When I started cleaning up my diet & removing processed foods and fake sugars my palette changed. Good Water tasted better to me and I no longer craved sweets.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
