Help please! Hungry!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I get hungry every 2 hours or so, I'm 3 weeks out of surgery and on puréed foods. I feel like I'm eating so much, even though I'm probably not. I'm scared I'm going to gain weight simply from being hungry, and eating. I'm not eating a ton of food, but compared to what I have been eating (all liquids, no hunger), this hungry feeling is terrible and I feel like a fatass. Has this happened to you? Please help! Any guidance would be great.

I'm not sure it is hunger you're feeling, rather it is probably acid. Ask your doctor about it, and if it is as I suspect, they should suggest an antacid that should work for you. Have you tried Tums melts? They have done a good job for me, especially at night when I wake up with the sensation. Another suggestion, if you truly feel it is hunger, try sipping on your Protein shake throughout the day. Good luck to you!

You're on purees you are not even coming close to over eating. You probably just need to eat 5 or 6 small meals instead of 3 bigger ones. Log your food and I bet you'r under 600 calories. That's fine. EAT! Until I transitioned to regular food I needed to eat 3 meals and 2 Snacks. Now that I'm eating more substantial food I can go on 3 meals a day, but occasionally on a really active day I may still need an afternoon snack.< /p>

Hi.

It is normal. My surgeon and APRN stated when I started my surgery to have 2 tsp of food every 2 hours. I am now 7 weeks out and I still eat every 2 hours, but I try to now get 2 oz in. I keep loosing weight.

Remember you should be eating more times per day, but much smaller portions. When you get to eat regular food, it is 300 calories for Breakfast, lunch, and dinner and three Snacks at 100 calories which equals 1200 calories per day. Remember to exercise too. Right now I assume you are allowed to walk 30 minutes per day (brisk walking)

You are doing fine.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
