So what did you do/have you been doing?

Recommended Posts

I'm on day 9 post-op and I'm bored out of my mind. I don't know what to do with myself. I went to the gym yesterday for the first time since surgery and did a 45 minute zumba class. I only did the basics because I don't want to rush into anything and I noticed a little pain when trying to do too much. I really miss the pool but I'm not allowed to swim yet. I live in the Midwest where it's SUPER cold so no going for walks outside. I'm not really a tv watcher so that's out. I've been spending the majority of my time reading and crocheting....both of which I'm bored with now. I've packed away some clothes that I'm hoping to never need again but even my ability to clean is limited because I can't do any "heavy" lifting. Sigh....so I don't know what to do with myself or what I SHOULD be doing this first few weeks after surgery. What have you been doing/what did you do?

The most important thing right now is hydration and Protein. Other than that you need to rest when you can and allow healing to happen. If you want an indoor low-impact exercise there are zillions on youtube.

Are you focusing on hydration and Protein for the first six weeks?

i'm glad things are going well, except boredom :(

little surprised that doc nixed swimming, heavy lifting (this is common) -

BUT green light for zumba at 9 days???

your tummy is just starting to heal - even if you feel great - tummy wants to rest a bit - but if your

doc says go for it with zumba - who am i to argue ;)

bored - what did you do pre-op (besides eat ;) ) thats what i loved to do :o

or are you bored because not used to being at home instead of working at the office???

thats maybe it, right??

as OP said, even though you might not feel bad, you should FORCE yourself to rest and heal

nothing wrong with that!!!!

take care bud

kathy

@proudgrammy thanks! I'm AM feeling really good. My dr said I could return to walking and the elliptical right away so I figured doing zumba w/o jumping and bumping would be ok. Plus, I just stuck to basic moves. I didn't do a lot of bending or reaching either. So it basically just amounted to walking/marching in place a lot. LOL

Eating was definitely my favorite past time. I guess that's why I really don't know what to do with myself now. I'm a student and I'm still on winter break so I don't have any homework or projects occupying my time either. I suppose I should just sit back and enjoy it while I can. It's difficult because I'm used to being a busybody but I'll make it work.

I was just curious to know if that's what everyone else did during the first few weeks. I want to make sure there's nothing I'm supposed to be doing.

I rested, walked and focused on getting in all my Water and Protein. My mom was here for the first two weeks, and my hubby was off the first 8 days with me. When I felt up to it he took me to store, did a little bumming. I LOVE being home. I was off work (I only work part time) for 5 weeks.

I shopped online, my surgery was 10/27 so I was getting ready for Christmas, I posted and read a lot on here, watched some movies,

Good Luck! And I am sorry you are feeling bored, but at least that means you are feeling good and that is important!!!

I rested and walked, but by the end of week 1 I was bored silly. At my 2 week follow up I was cleared to drive and that helped. Week 3 my incisions had scabbed and I returned to the pool. If you have an uneventful recuperation there will be some boredom. Just focus on getting your fluids and Protein in. The time will pass soon enough.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
