Hi, I'm Andrea. I just got banded, April 30th. My main motivation for getting this done was that my father passed away (at age 52) in September mostly due to his medical problems due to severe obesity. He had severe diabetes, high blood pressure and sleep apnea. Also, my mom has been obese for years and also has diabetes and high blood pressure. I am pretty healthy for my size and don't have any of those problems yet, but I know if I continue the path I was on I would end up the same way. So far I feel better about myself, I feel I look better and now I can walk further on my walks and not feel like I'm going to die from shortness of breathe. I have lost 11 pounds so far, but I can't help comparing myself to others. One of my friends got banded by the same doctor in January and lost 30 lbs the first month. Any suggestions or helpful hints?

Thanks,

Andrea

look for a support group in your area,

rely more on your mind to control your eating habits and less on your bad. The upside of losing it slowly is that your skin has time to catch up and you end up with more normal looking skin when you're done, so don't fret so much over losing slowly!

Congrats on your band....Don't compare yourself to others!!!! Just work with the band and allow it to help you each step of the way....It is going to come off faster for some and slower for others...just don't worry about it...take one day at a time....and enjoy the journey..Good luck and I hope that all continues to go well for you....Welcome to bandland....

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
