I have a few questions for some veterans... I'm 4 months post op. How much could YOU eat at that point? I feel as if I'm eating too much and I'm thinking about trying a liquid diet for a week or so to try and get myself back on track.. Does that sound like a smart idea or Is there maybe something else I could try?

Also, has anyone suffered from depression after surgery? Some days it's just so hard to get out of bed, to be happy, or to do anything really. I'm a lot more emotional than I used to be.. Which I hate. I wasn't like that before surgery, I had self confidence issues but nothing like what I feel now.. if Anyone that may have dealt with it offer me some insight on what I could do to change it without having to take anti-depressants? I absolutely love my sleeve and I don't regret it what so ever, but these are my two biggest struggles that I feel are holding me back from my full potential. Thank yall in advance!

Sounds like you need to call your doctor/bariatric team. How much are you eating a day? Do you keep a journal? 3 ½ months out and other than a morning shake I am on regular food. I wouldn't want to go back to all liquids for anything in the world.

I haven't experienced depression but I understand it is not uncommon. Talk to your team about how you are feeling. While medication should only be a last resort, please do not rule it out. Please do not wait for your 6 mths f/u. If you are struggling, reach out.

I'm allowed 3/4 cup of food three times a day with 2 Snacks. I usually never eat that much. I try between 600-800 calories daily.

I see a therapist that specializes in working with bariatric patients. He's wonderful because he understands everything I'm going through. This is a life changing event and having someone to talk to really helps!!

After hearing that, I think I may just be over reacting with the food part.. I eat about that much. It just seemed like over night I went from barely being able to intake a couple bites to being able to eat 3/4 cup of food. I should however start measuring my food again. The holidays have messed up my eating habits but thankfully getting back on the right track is easier than it used to be. I plan on calling my dr Monday and see what options I have with my depression. Thank yall so much!

I feel like I'm eating a lot but I found that I'm not eating enough. Did you suffer from depression before your surgery?

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
