Sliming / Throwing Up

Recommended Posts

How often do you vomit slime/foam or actual food?

I seem to be averaging 1 - 1.5 x per month. Is that a lot?

Today I did it again, and I didn't even eat that much food. :( It's really unpleasant.

I never have, but I'm only 7 weeks post-op. Though, I am eating regular foods. I've never been much if a puker though...

@@Quest4TheNewMe I am only 9 weeks out and it's happened to me 3 times. I am eating normal food and not eating much, and I was never a puker, either. I'm wondering if certain foods just don't agree with me? Your lack of slimes/vomiting makes me wonder if I'm doing something wrong.

That's a bummer! Are you making sure to eat slowly and chew really well? Otherwise, I'd start tracking it to see if you can find some sort of commonality... Specific food? Situation?

Since it isn't happening very often, I wouldn't think it would be due to some sort of medical issue, but of course it never hurts to consult your surgeon.

I did based on certain foods for a good 3-4 months (I'm 7 months out now). I tracked my foods and avoided them for a month or so and then tried again. Some went down fine, some did not and I would try again in a few weeks. From that experience, I only tried new post-op foods at home! Now, it does not really happen with foods. Instead, it happens with my Multivitamin if I do not eat with them. That surprises me because the Vitamins were fine without food those first few months. The body is something else.

Mine is definitely related to how fast I eat! Hasn't happened in about a month as I have figured out to slow down.

I had it a lot in the beginning...not as much lately but still quite a bit. It is definitely related to how fast I eat and if I take that one bite that was one too many. I also have it if I drink liquids too close to my meals...which has been really hard for me!

Definitely was a learning process for me, and I dare say it still is... and it's happened much less the more I have learned over time. I know I'm probably not the only one here that's had to learn the hard way too.

I would say half the time it's happened, it's been because of WHAT I ate, and half the time, because I would eat TOO FAST. At first, it seemed I'd have problems if not once a day, once every other day. It wasn't much fun. Nowadays (at almost a year out), I might overdo it in terms of eating too quickly once a month, or every other month and pay dearly for it... but slowly I have figured it out.

Deep fried foods and sugar are about the only things that still get my tummy in a tizzy. So I tend to avoid them as often as possible (though the rare cheese curd still tastes as great as ever!). Any food can still give me problems if consumed too quickly, though. Still trying to rectify that one.

I'm a fast eater (but workin' on it). Once I went on purees, I got the slimes every few days from certain Proteins like tofu, ground turkey, or tuna. If the slimes were too bad and my sleeve too full, I'd make myself throw up just to get the excess saliva out. It's not at all like throwing up with a regular tummy that's for sure.

Now I overeat and get the slimes maybe once every 2-3 weeks. I don't worry about it. It's a learning process. I weigh all my food to keep my portions honest. I am eating a bit slower or at least chewing more. I do eat very slowly when I eat out because I can only estimate how much I'm eating by how full I feel.

I haven't either. I had that stacking stuck in the esophagus feeling once. Otherwise I've been okay.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
