So I heard you get more fertal post op and I don't need babies right now.

I'm doing the shot every 3 months I was told a lot of woman gain weight because they eat a lot but my doctor told me I'd be fine do to A it's hard for me to gain right now and B I'm limited to the amount of food i intake.

Anyone else on the shot or birth control in general anything I should look out for? Cravings? Mood swings?

I'm personally not on the shot, I take the Marlissa pill, but every single person I've known who was on the shot got knocked up the minute they came off of it. I don't know if that's the general consensus, but for a handful of people I know it's the case. So I wouldn't ever let there be a lapse.

But in general all of them seem to affect me differently, I've tried several different pills, sometimes after a few years my body gets sick of one particular brand and things start getting bad and I have to change to a different brand. Some brands I hate right away and if things do not improve I ask for something else, others like the Marlissa have been good after the initial startup month of hell. If you are having issues like worse PMS symptoms, cramping, super bloating, heavier periods than normal, etc, after giving your body 2-3 months to adjust, I'd look into switching to something else.

Great question I tried to get a iud but my body rejected it. And I am afraid of the pill again since I have been off for so long I don't want all the hormones again. Anyone try the ring thing?

I've been on the pill, the Nuva ring, and the shot. The shot has by far been the best. I started the shot in Jan of 2013 and haven't had my period since. Yes, that is as amazing as it sounds lol. As far as how the shot has affected me physically it's kind of hard to say since I've been on it for so long. I would say it's possible it made me gain some weight. But it's not making me harder for me to lose post op from what I can tell. I do notice that for maybe a few days out of the month I am more emotional, silly commercials and things of that nature will make me tear up. If you have any other specific questions let me know

But I just don't want to crave food! I got my first shot ever this Monday. I'm not sure if it was because of the shot or my period but I was craving chocolate and cookies and I just wanted to eat eat eat. Now not so much. I liked the idea of the shot tho somwthing I'd do 3 months and I wouldn't have to remember to take a pill and also everything else is too long term I'm only 23 but ya never know by 24 my b.f and I might want a baby.

I was on depo for over 5 yrs and when I came off(and they are only supposed to keep you on it for 5 yrs) I couldn't stop bleeding. It was brutal. I had to have a hysterectomy at 45. I had my son and I only wanted one so it wasnt a big deal to me and after having a miserable reproductive life I welcomed it. But you are still young so be careful to discuss it with your doctor

I have the Mirena IUD and I absolutely love it. I'm on my second one. No side effects, and NO PERIODS! I know some OB/GYNs won't do IUDs for people who haven't had kids yet, but from what I've seen that's outdated info. My doc DOES do them for people who haven't had kids.

Oh no now I'm scared! But I don't think I'll be on it for more then 2 years. My b.f and I are looking into getting married this year and hopefully kids in 2. I guess we'll see.

I know my first shot made my period last for 7 days and I was spotting for 5 days.

Mine stopped right away until I came off it. Not trying to scare you just have the chat with your doctor.

I have the Mirena iud. My periods were very heavy prior to the iud. They say some women have no period with it, but I guess I am one of the rare exceptions. It's very light, to the point where I feel silly calling it a period more like spotting but it last for days...... I am curious to see if I will not have a period at all after surgery. fingers crossed!!!

I have the Mirena IUD for several reasons including PMA, hormonal headaches, PCOS and heavy bleeding. I get really light periods with the IUD which are so much better than they used to be. The only bad side effect for me is it's causing bad acne. I'm doing have children also.

@@Busymomof3 did you have your Mirena before surgery? I am so grateful that my periods are much lighter than they use to be. I used to have to wear two pads and a tampon. Now it's just a tampon and sometimes not even that. My issue with the mirena is that my period can last up to 15 days. I have had 3 different ob providers tell me it's normal to have the spotting...I say ok but 15 days straight!? I have an ultrasound and all that. It's in the right place and everything. So I am wondering and praying that after surgery I will have no period/spotting at all and if that is to much to ask then please God just a few days and not 15 long days

I got the Mirena in October and didn't stop spotting until I had my first full blown and 2 week period, I am just recently stopping spotting daily. I was spotty every day for about 3 months, and now I haven't seen anything since the 17th. and my first period lasted from Jan 1st to the 14th, and I spotted from October 17th to January 1st. I also had some mood swings, but no other issues.

I've leveled off and I am incredibly happy with my Mirena. I highly recommend it. I've never had kids before and they still approved it for me, it's all a matter of how open your cervix is. Another option is the skyla which is for 3 years and approved for those who've never had kids, so it's smaller.
