is this restriction???

Recommended Posts

this is probably a dumb question but I just need some clarification...

I had a fill on 5/8/07. 1st one... since then when i eat something that i did not chew well enough or something that I should NOT eat, I have a terrible, terrible, constricted feeling in my chest, like it will not go down but does not come up... is that restriction??? I am learning to take smaller bites, chew, chew, chew and not eat certain things...

Just want to clarify that this is what it shoudl feel like..

thanks for any input!!!

That is not necessarily restiction. That is a sign that you aren't chewing well enough of taking too big of a bite. I have that happen and I hate it so much.

Restriction is if you get full pretty fast and stay full for a few hours.

thanks so much...

i figured as much... I am going back in June for fill#2... I have not had the "full feeling" just yet. I usually stop when I get the restricted feeling... and you are probably 100% right... still learning!!! big change in lifestyle that is for sure!!

Hi Dean i was banded in January and suffer the same as you, i think pain is fullness but its not obviously. i have 7 mils in a 9 mil band and still dont feel the full feeling.

Yes, I agree w/Denise822! That feeling is pretty painful, as I have experiencied myself quite a few times...The only thing that provides immediate relief is to make myself throw up, and that doesn't take too much effort. However, you want to avoid throwing up so you don't slip your band. You'll get the hang of it soon enough, trust me!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
