Lap Band Post Op Day 8

Recommended Posts

I am 8 days post op and and feel really good! 10 lbs gone, mostly fighting head hunger, and starting to go bananas on full liquid. What did everyone do to get through this phase? I feel like I'm breaking down more and more everyday.....will I really screw everything up if I have some cottage cheese or canned tuna? ? Need encouragement????

Hang in there. It gets easier. I had six weeks of full liquids after LapBand. I just found the best Soups money could buy. Lost 50 pounds before my first fill at six weeks post op. You can do it!

I find it how interesting Different Drs are after a week I was allowed mushy and believe it or not I'm so tired of yogurt and cottage cheese but it tasted like heaven when I 1st got to eat it, It's best to do what your Dr. wants in this phase they have their reasons even if we don't understand them.

That's awesome that you guys have made such tremendous progress! I know what you are saying......but the reason I asked was because I have read numerous bariatric sites and I can't for the life of me understand why I have to stay on liquids for 3 weeks. Aaarrrgghhh!!

Oh, by the way--JustWatchMenwhat are the best Soups you found?

Local restaurants here mostly. But I love love love Mariano's lobster bisque. I also often had Tomato basil and cream of anything. My daughter taught me that adding pepper flakes to Tomato Soup gives it a really nice kick and is very satisfying.

Just be aware what you put in your mouth are still calories. The richer the Soup the higher calorie content (usually). A simple study of regular Soups at the supermarket will give you a big heads up. I love crock pot cooking my own veggies and blending them into my own creamy soup. It's easy and you know what's in it....usually not even 10% of the sodium of packaged soups. I think the idea behind 3 weeks of fluids is so that we don't tear or further traumatize the area where the band was placed. It's major surgery your body went through. Let it heal.

Babylvrrn, you're just a few days ahead of me in this experience and I feel exactly how you do with this liquid diet. It's driving me bonkers too. I would pay big money just to eat some cottage cheese right now. It's gotten to the point that no matter what I drink, it all tastes the same. My doctor said I could start pureed food at about 10 days, and I'm only on day 3. He won't let me eat solid food until week 4, which seems like an eternity. I guess we just have to tough it out.

I haven't had my surgery yet. It is scheduled in 3 weeks. Nervous about the liquid phase. Do you feel the same hunger as pre-op? Or does the band help at all with that?

Okay, now it's day 10 and I'm on pureed food. It only takes about a cup of food to make me feel extremely full, and I haven't even had a fill yet. I can't imagine how I'm going to eat once that happens. So, so glad to be off the liquid phase. I pureed ravioli today and it tasted divine. It looked like crap, but it was filling and delicious.

This made me laugh out loud. It made me remember all of the puréeing I did in those first few weeks. You're right. It all looked like crap, but it was delicious.

Remember the importance of sticking to your Dr's recommendations. My dr advised me to take it slow so scar tissue can form around the band so it doesn't slip. We wouldn't want that now would we:(? Just keep your eye on the prize and remember it will get better.

I guess this is easy for me to say because I am only on day 1 post op. Maybe my attitude will change once I get to the pureed stage.

Im on day 6 post op (lap band) and went 4 full days liquid and on day 5 had a soft boiled egg in the morning that almost made me cry! So delicious. Ive been pureeing bean broth and Beans for bean Soup (very filling) and did a vegetable soup (made the mistake of adding broccoli which gave me some gas pains much of today) I was given green light to keep adding in pureed/mushy foods and tomorrow morning will try a plain yogurt- very excited. I seem to fill up with just a mug of soup and a bit of soft cheese or egg. INcision sites are closed up and I dont have to keep bandages on anymore as of today. Because of being in MExico where my awesome surgeon is only until next Saturday, we want to make sure solid food phase will work before Im away for the month of february in Costa Rica. Ill get my first fill (if needed) in the beginning of March back in NYC.

SO anyone who has gone from Puree to solids and has any advice on transition period, i welcome your input!

So far so good. 5k down since surgery. (about 10lbs)

Good luck all!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
