December Surgery Thread - we rock!

Hi everyone. I'm Bella and I'm starting this thread for those of us having our surgery December 2014.

How is everyone doing? Tell a little bit about yourself and how your surgery went, or if it's coming up still.

Let's keep in touch as we progress throughout the next phase.

A great way to kick in the new year!!

My surgery was December 4th and although I had some rough moments all in all I had no complications.

I had this surgery because of back pain issues and I was already on pain meds so that part was harder for me, I had a lot more pain that usual.

My stats are 5'6, sw 240, cw 224, age 34. 2 kids, single, have been overweight since my first pregnancy.

I am about 12 days or so out and went out for the first time today. Felt like a baby calf learning to walk. My incisions are healing up nicely!

I have been eating some protein shakes, yogurt, tea, crystal light, and strained soups. The mental need to eat has been a little rough but it seems to be going away somewhat. I find it hard to be around food or see someone eating. My biggest craving has been for a sandwich! Today I had decaf coffee and it was Wonderful.

My goals this year are to get to goal weight, start working out again, and get off pain meds.

Introduce yourself!!

Hey everyone! My surgery was December 18 and I am down 91 pounds since the day of surgery. I still have about 50 more to go. I am doing pretty well with most foods except meat. I feel really good, sti

Eating is definitely a challenge. I used to love food. Now I loathe it. For Breakfast I usually have a protien shake (premier protien - at room temperature). lunch was cottage cheese with fruit. I had an Atkins chewy bar for a snack. dinner is the hardest and not sure what I am going to have but I can say that most meats do not sit well with me. I have spent a lot of time in the bathroom throwing up what didn't go down the right way. Last night I made salmon. My family loved it and I couldn't bear to smell it, let alone put it in my mouth. My current preferred protien is cottage cheese and eggs are not very tasty to me. Salads are ok as long as there is no meat and they are baby greens.

And I know I am supposed to be having more Snacks but it just hasn't worked out that way with my work schedule!

I started at 235 and I am down to 209, currently. I can't wait to lose some more.

I'm glad (though sorry) to hear that others are having problems with foods too. There are things I just can't even bear to taste.

Are you tolerating the Atkins bar ok? I have some Quest bars, but have not tried them yet. I can handle fish and ground meats. Anything else is hard to tolerate. Luckily I haven't thrown up from anything yet, but I've had some powerful cramping in my stomach area a couple of times.

I just wish I could manage the liquids better.

Hello! I just turned 41 a coup,e of days ago and had my RNY done in December 10th. I am blessed to not have had any complications or much pain at all. I can eat and drink normally, except smaller portions, and I have not found anything that I don't tolerate yet, I can even eat and drink together. The hard part is how slowly I am losing. Only down 17 pounds 5 weeks out. I'm wondering if I have ruined my pouch already, is it already stretched? I don't know.

When you eat and drink together it can stretch out your pouch. It can also push the food down to fast and cause dumping and also cause the nutrients to go away. These are some not all of the reasons we can't eat and drink at the same time. This may be one of the reasons you are losing slower. May not be but it could be.

I too was drinking and eating cause I felt i could not do one without the other. I only just found out on the 8th from my DR. The reasons why it was bad. Had surgery on the 15th of dec. Your welcome!

I had my surgery on Dec.19, and I am struggling with the water and protein shakes. I started feeling hungry and always craving something sweet. I am good at taking my morning vitamins, but tend to forget them at lunch and dinner :(

I think I lack the time mangment. I don't know what to do? @ 4 weeks now when do I start having veggies? And what kind?

naan - If you have a smart phone, there are apps that help you put your pills in and an alarm will go off when it is time to take them. I use Pill Reminder, but I'm sure there are others. My doc & nutritionist told me that I could start having veggies after 3 weeks, but to introduce them slowly and stay away from the really fibrous things such as the stalk of broccoli and some lettuces. Ask you doc if you can start on them. My doc and nutritionist gave me a whole booklet they prepared of all of the food stages and what I could eat.

naan, Please check with your nutritionist. While annebqui gets veggies at three weeks, I don't get them until six weeks! Each doctor has their own way.

Eating anything hard is a task. I tried stew chicken and threw all night. I can stick with shakes, smoothies, yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna &chicken salad. My husband jokes that I eat like bird. It sometimes frustrating to have to eat so slow. But I know I can safely tolerate ONLY 2 .oz of solid tilipia.any suggestions I'm like 7 weeks out.

I am almost 5 weeks out from a dec. 18th surgery date, and down 30 lbs since my surgery day, 40 including start of nutritional program. I have only dumped once (on a protein bar), and it was wicked horrible. I am doing pretty good most days, still have cravings but holding strong. Dining out, I just keep it clean with baked or grilled chicken and veggie dish. Great to hear everyone else is doing so well :-)

Hi, I'm five weeks today! My surgery was Dec 15th and I'm down 31lbs. I'm doing good food wise, I'm still struggling with get all the water down. I'm going through a dumping right now, and I will never try honey nut Cheerios again. They don't have a lot of sugar and I had skim milk, but now I'm nauseated, having heat flashes, and running to the restroom. I have learned my lesson!

Had surgery on 12/16, only have lost 20 since the surgery. I'm really frustrated since I haven't lost anything in a few weeks despite barely eating. I'm trying to move around and walk but I'm so tired/low energy that I can barely finish a day at work let alone work out. I'm feeling really depressed, I feel like this was a mistake. I'm only 22 and I feel like I've ruined my life. I know that being this upset at not losing for three weeks seems stupid, but I've been miserable and barely eating and I'm not seeing any results. I have been crying for the last two days feeling like I'm never going to get to where I need to be. I would appreciate any advice/suggestions.

@berkelycurves I had my surgery on Dec.19 and I also lost only 20 lbs.

Not eating is not going to help you much, you need to eat.

I haven't lost anything for the last 15 days, but I know because I am not getting enough fluids.

I don't work but I am a full time student, and yes my energy is very low. I don't exercise, but I try to move around the house.

Please don't be discouraged and depressed the weight will come off. From what I have been reading we need the fluids, protein and a tiny tiny bites. Trust me it will get better. ;) we are here to support one another. So you can do it, we all can
