My name is Sandy and I am 16 days post op. I started puréed foods two days ago. Tonight I had 4 oz of tuna salad. I'm not sure what happened, maybe I ate to quickly but I have vomited twice. I can't keep fluids down. Wondering if I have a blockage from the tuna salad. I still have chest pain and a full feeling and it's been two hours now. Will this feeling eventually go away? ????

Sandy ...you ate too much, too fast and too soon. You need to stick to pureed foods for a lot longer than two days. Speaking from painful experience. Sounds awful, but you can puree tuna salad. Take it SLOWWWW. I had a lap band and now a RNY bypass. I speak from long experience.

To help now try a hot cup of chamomile, Or some no caffeine tea. Sip slowly it can clear and soothe an irritated pouch-tube, etc. Just take your time.

Thank you filmgal! I did puree the tuna salad but I think it was too dry. I also ate while watching TV and I may not have been paying attention. I had a few sips of Powerade zero and I vomited that too. But after relaxing and doing some deep breathing the sensation in my chest is gone. I am glad though that everything is working properly. I was nervous that something may not be hooked up correctly because this is the first time I have felt sick. Thank you so very much for your advice! I am loving this support group. :)

As a veteran Lap Bander a new RNY, I can tell you when you have a vomiting event, take it slow when you eat or drink for the next 24-28 hours due to inflammation that vomiting can cause. Some docs tell you to go back to liquids for 24 hours to help with the swelling.

Some people find a warm or hot liquid such as tea or hot Water with lemon soothing and other find a cold liquid better to help with swelling.

I am 26 days post op and have had one event, I am still learning how much to eat, I am supposed to work up to 1/2 cup of food but can't manage that yet.

Good luck.....

Just to make sure you know even I have 2 episodes since surgery Oct 21. Both related to not soft enough or chewed food. Or very simply that one bite too many. (that was me tonight... nearly got sick) we all goof up sometimes... :-) Just the man upstairs keeping me honest :-)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
