So my surgery was November 19. I started my period yesterday. I didn't have one for about 3 months before the surgery. I have PCOS and so I rarely have a period. I suppose my body is playing catch up now, because I have the worst cramps of my life, and I am bleeding so much I can't even leave my house. I have to go to the bathroom like every hour and it's still leaking through everything. Has anyone else experienced this? I hope it doesn't last too long :(

Aww that stinks! No I didn't have any issues, business as usual but you may want to inform your DR. If your losing a lot of blood you may need so extra iron..ect I hope you get to feeling better soon!

Your entire system has been thrown for a loop. Everything is messed up. Your body is trying to clean out the meds and heal and rest and recover and make things right. All your emotions plus physical condition is out of whack. You had major surgery and your body being the amazing machine it is is trying to bring you back to a healthy state.

So at times like these anything can happen. I am post menopausal and had not had a period for years and then out of the blue I get one.......After surgery. Caused me discomfort because the surgeon had to look at things to make sure all was well. So it happens.

You have an extra condition. I would have it checked out as I did. To bleed like that is not good. If it continues past 10 days it is time to move on it. It is better to be safe then sorry.

Women always seem to have issues with their cycle when we have some kind of trauma in life! :)

i have PCOS and had the exact same experience. It was horrible. It does pass and my second one wasn't as bad. I did question the dr about it though ????

My periods after surgery are unusually heavy with very painful cramping. I thought your periods were suppose to be lighter and less painful after pregnancy. Well, that never happened. I thought once I was down 50 pounds it would get better. Nope, it actually has gotten worse. Maybe my body is just a little messed up from surgery and will eventually regulate to more healthy state. I'm on hormone pills now, so hopefully that will help ease up on my heavy periods.

My cycle was off for about 3 months after surgery. I actually had my period the day of surgery. It stopped 2 days later and then started again 2 weeks later. I went to my pcp and was put on a new birth control. I haven't had any issues since. Definitely let your surgeon know at your next follow up!

I was told that I was infertile because of my pcos, and the only way to make the pcos go away was to lose weight. This is the major reason I got the surgery. So, I know that I should look at it as a good thing because I am ovulating on my own and hopefully that means I'll be able to have a baby one day... But sheesh!! Hopefully once I start taking birth control my periods will be more regular.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
