Caffeine Detox

Recommended Posts

Did anyone detox from caffeine before surgery? I know we're not supposed to have caffeine after surgery, so I'm worried about withdrawal headaches.

Around 6 months prior to surgery I went cold turkey on diet cokes (caffeine and carbonated beverages). I was up to a 6 cokes per day habit. I suffered through a week of withdrawal syndrome, primarily very severe headaches. It is better to get this over with as soon as possible. If you do this at the time of surgery, it will make the recovery much more difficult because you will receive a double whammy.

I went slowly on the detox of caffeine. I don't drink coffee, but had a huge diet coke issue for years.

I just added Water to my coke, starting with 1/4, them after a week or 10 days, 1/2, and the next week more water. I planned on 6 weeks and it took about 3 1/2 weeks before I was done.

No headaches. I do suffer Migraines so I was concerned.

Am glad I am done, although sometimes I see a coke and have the urge, I know I am better off free of it. When I had my colonoscopy they found some ulceration which I am sure was from the sodas over the years.

Good luck.

I had a rough three days to detox from caffeine and carbs. Stopped when I started the pre op diet and after about three days things got better. At four months out I don't crave the diet coke...I've tried a sip a few times and it tastes ghastly....don't know how I drank it for so many years. I still have an occasional drink with caffeine, ice tea or a skinny Starbucks. I don't make a regular habit of it. It is a diuretic....we need yo stay hydrated...

I was very addicted to coke, drank 2 liters a day. Only stopped for 2 week diet. Wish I had stopped sooner. But I have a hard time passing the aisle in the grocery store. Tried a little bit a few times, the carbonation hurts your stomach. So get rid of it now. The sooner the better!

Do it a little at a time. If you drink 3 cans a day, drop to 2 cans the 1st week ... dropping down one can each week.

I quit diet coke when I started my 2 day clear liquid diet before my surgery. With everything you go through after surgery you wont miss it. Now that I am 2 1/2 months out. My nutrtionist says I can have coffee & tea 1 to 2 times a week. Keep it low fat & sugar free. I have not had any but I like the fact that I can. Haha

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
