What Are You Looking forward to on Thanksgiving?

  1. 1. What’s the one thing you’re most looking forward to on Thanksgiving?

    • Feeling proud that I’m going to be in control of what I eat and not overeat for once, thanks to my weight loss surgery.
      3
    • A taste of my favorite dish (sweet potatoes? Stuffing? Pumpkin pie? Let us know below!). I get it once a year, and I’m not going to pass it up this year just because of my weight loss surgery.
      4
    • A break. I’ve been so careful about my weight loss surgery diet that I can’t for a day to just relax and eat what I want.

    • Seeing my friends and/or family. I look forward to this all year!

    • Some peace and quiet. There’s no big celebration planned, and I can’t wait for some time to myself.

Almost everyone loves Thanksgiving, but for different reasons, whether it’s the food, the family, or the general happy mood going into the holiday season. As a weight loss surgery patient or someone thinking about the journey, you may have even more to look forward to this year than ever before. What’s the one thing you’re most looking forward to on Thanksgiving?

Was going to choose other but re-read #1. Me to a T!

I'm most looking forward to not cooking all day & cleaning up the mess. I have to work all day.

On the sign-up sheet for what everyone working, will bring for T-Giving to share, I wrote Protein. lol

That's probably going to raise some eyebrows from those who've had WLS & didn't know I have. ha

I'm going to do a no-stress dinner with my family another day. My daughter & her fiance's on some diet that's a cross between Paleo & Atkins so I'll cook mostly protein, veg & no carb. Nice n easy! :)

No big blub, oof-belly for me this year! Yay!

Plus, it doesn't sit right in my soul anymore to Celebrate the Pilgrams and 'Indians' 'first contact/dinner since the Pilgrams ultimately massacred and nearly succeeded in committing genocide against the Native Americans. It feels contradictory. That's just my view on it. I can do a big family dinner anytime.

Looking at the votes, I find it very telling that there isn't more votes for "Seeing my friends/and or family". As usual, with most of us, it's all about the food. (I voted for the "Feeling proud that I'm More in Control" option, like most did) Ultimately though, I do think I am a happier, more well rounded person now that food is not the COMPLETE focal point of my life. And that allows me to look forward to spending time with my family :)

I'm still on the preop diet so my family supported my decision to forgo the usual Thanksgiving feast. My brother found an invitation somewhere else...which is good. What I'm looking forward to is getting my Christmas decorations up and the house cleaned so that when I come home from surgery (scheduled for 03 Dec) I can recuperate in style!

My world famous (okay not really, but darn good) cranberry custard pie. Oh and turkey skin. I love the skin. LOL!

@Forsythia. Some would say the skin was the devil. I'm just saying.....

It's not about the food. It never was on the holidays. I was a closet eater...I ate 'normal' at family functions because I knew everyone was watching me. (they weren't but that's how I felt because I was so large) So I never overate at the get together...no...I ate to excess when I got home.

So now, I eat my regular amount of food and no eating anything else after. It let's me focus on enjoying the family and that's good enough for me.

family and friends is the focus for Thanksgiving for me...and will be, especially for Christmas, as it will be my first time "home" in quite awhile for the holiday.

but food is no longer primary in my life...so it's no "biggie"...if I was at home, I would have made my Dad's stuffing, which is awesome...and yes, I would have had some...but since we are going to someone's house-no worries.... bringing spaghetti squash bake :)

Mind you, this pie is not healthy at all. Not one bit of good for you. So if you are looking for a healthy alternative THIS IS NOT IT. :) Have a small sliver...

I got the recipe from Real Simple and it came out so fab last year, I'm making it for my Dad this year.

Thank you, @@Forsythia! :)

I knew it probably isn't 'healthy'. That's ok. I'll make it and have a sliver as you suggested. Couldn't eat more than that anyway. ;)

*Viewing recipe:

I'll make it crustless & just have it as a delicious "parfait". :)

I'm looking forward to NOT having to work. Unless, of course we get any emergency calls. (Help! my dog is choking on a turkey bone because I was too stupid to keep him away from the kitchen!)..... which is highly likely, but a gal can dream!

oh yeah, and I'm trading in my daily Protein smoothie for all the turkey, dressing and potatoes I can stuff in my sleeve.

and wine.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily,Β including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well. Β I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening. Β So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this?? Β Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.Β

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ
