Recommended Posts

So I first got referred for bariatric surgery in the uk January 2014 . I got my first appointment October 2014 for my initial assessment am on tier 3 weight management programme . Next appointment is December 2014 for a group seminar about diet post op back In feb 2015 for seminar about different types of surgery available . Then I will wait for another appointment then I guess I will be meeting with surgeon , psychiatrist , dietitian, anaesthetist etc.. Get the go ahead then wait for a surgery date . It has been such a long journey but I'm really ready for this now . No idea when the actual surgery date will be around anyone have any rough ideas from previous experiences ? Any similar stories I'd love to hear . Any advice welcomed .

Begin walking exercise now, it will help the recovery process go smoothly. After the operation, you will be asked to not take caffeine or carbonated beverages. I had a 6 diet Coke a day habit before surgery. I went cold turkey 6 months before surgery and had major withdrawal syndrome with severe headaches that lasted over a week. This withdrawal syndrome is common with people. It is better to go cold turkey now and suffer for a week than add this complication right after surgery.

Ok thanks . Am not fizzy drinks person though . I've started juicing fruits and vegetables to increase my 5 a day . I'm a vegetarian so my main obstacle will be avoiding carbs like bread , Pasta , rice , potatoes is basically what I've been use to and is not really going to be ideal post op ????

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
