Sleeve with hiatal hernia

Recommended Posts

I did.....not sure if the pain would be much different without the hiatal hernia repair. When I woke up I had stomach spasms, not so much pain. I don't really remember any unbearable pain. I stayed overnight in the hospital and had the best nurses who were very efficient and timely with pain and anti nausea meds. I never had any nausea but I took the meds on schedule just to be safe.

I had my surgery at 7 a.m. I felt tired and crappy for most of the day but by around midnight I was walking the halls of the hospital. The only pain I had was from the largest incision which was uncomfortable for a week or two.

I wish you the best of luck.

I took two weeks off. I have read on here that many people go back in a week. I was too tired, I think it is the way my body reacts to anesthesia. This was not my first surgery so it has happened before. I didn't have much pain or discomfort but I felt I needed a nap every day plus I wanted to be able to be on pureed foods before I went back to work so I could bring yogurt or cottage cheese.< /p>

I had the sleeve and hiatal repair four weeks ago. For me, it was very painful. I did not have any gas pain, all surgery pain. My pain level was 9/10. The mistake I made was that I waited too long to ask for the pain meds. I stayed in the hospital for two days because the pain was so bad that my doctor didn't feel comfortable releasing me. I walked very little the first day. The second day I did better but it was extremely difficult.

The lesson in the story is to take your pain meds timely.

By the way, I took three weeks off, just returned Wednesday.

I had both and had very little pain. Back to work in a week. I didn't even know I had the hiatal hernia repair until I overheard one of the nurses telling another nurse at shift change!!

That is what I like to hear!!! I am not telling my job that I am having surgery! I have an office job and sit at my desk the entire day and type! I cannot wait!!

I had both done and had little pain or discomfort. I took two weeks off but I think I would have been fine with only one week. Good luck to you!

My doctor said most people have a hiatal hernia, so I too had that repaired with the vsg. I had an out patient surgery so I didn't stay in the hospital. I was off of work a full week, I have an office job.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
