Left side pain!

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 5/29/14 and so far so good! Recently I have been getting pain in my left side under my ribcage. This is about the forth time getting this pain. The first time it was so bad I couldn't even move. I take my gas-x regularly! Has anyone else had this problem? Im always in fear of my band slipping even though i eat small and chew good. Please help!!

I have had this issue too on occasion, and when I asked the Physician Assistant about it, she said that other patients have complained about that too and that she didn't know what causes that. It's in the area where you said, which is near the port.

My port is right above my belly button which is why I haven't thought of it as port pain. The first time it happened I didn't even make it through my dinner and was in severe pain for a good two hours. I assumed it was just trapped gas because as soon as I got home and took my gas-x I felt relief. Like I said I am severely worried about slipping my band or a dilation. I am very cautious of how much I eat but I know sometimes old ways sink in and I eat too much. I just don't want this pain to be trying to tell me something and I'm just thinking gas. The pain is high on my left side right under my breast.

@@kourtni12, my port is near my navel as well (slightly to the left), so we're both probably in the same area. It's important to followup with our medical team when we sense something may be wrong. If it's gas, let THEM tell you that. They can xray or do an MRI or something to see what's going on, even detect gas. Please see your doctor and tell him EVERYTHING about your eating habits, whether you're eating too much, the wrong things, or even drinking fluids with your meals. The best way for them to help us if we're honest with ourselves and them.

Keeps us posted!! Take care!!

I was banded 6/2013 and I've pretty much always had that left sided pain whether it be really bad or just a dull ache intermittently. Don't know what it is, but pretty sure it's harmless after 18 months of dealing with it. I think it's just another one of the changes that come with the band for some people. Good luck.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
