Kinda New..coming out of hiding

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I've been lirking on this site for about a month. I've read just about every post and wow this is an amazing site and I'm glad I found it.

So since I know all about you guys I'd like to share a bit about me. I'm 33..ugh 34 in 3 weeks and I've been exploring the LB option for about a year. I've been extremely fat for most of my life and am now only 3lbs under my heaviest. This past January I finally decided it was right for me. Everyone in my "inner circle" at first thought I was doing this for vaniety reasons. Yes part of it is vaniety but the biggest part is that I want children and I want most of all to live to see them grow-up and at the rate I'm going thats not going to happen.

Anyway, I've met with my surgeon Dr. von Rueden and did all of the pre-op stuff and I now pray that I never have to have another upper gi in my life...anyway I digress..

Yesterday I received a call from my surgeon's office to say that my insurance has approved it and now I'm waiting for a surgery date. The nurse said I should hear something by the end of the week and surgery most likely will be by the end of June!!!

Thanks for reading...and happy shrinking!

Gail

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
