Just starting my journey!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I'm just starting my journey towards a vertical gastric sleeve. I'm so excited, and looking for support before and after the surgery! I'm only 18, and I've struggled with obesity my entire life and inevitably will without this surgery. With the approval of my insurance company, I can be booked for surgery as soon as February! I'm looking for any other teens, or anyone in general, for support. :)

Thank you so much, it's so nice having someone to relate to! I'm thinking about getting the surgery during spring break (I'm a freshman in college), we have about 10 days off, and I'm curious if this is enough time for healing post op. I've always been a fast healer, and my mom also had a vgs, and went back to work the following week.

Hi there! Its awesome to see younger people on here like me. I'm 19 and having my surgery next Tuesday! ????

I as well have been overweight my whole life, starting at the age of like 5. I was never able to lose weight with just dieting or diet programs and I played sports up until I hit highschool. Just like you, if I didn't decide to do this surgery I'm 99% sure that I'd be overweight my whole life.

Spring break should be a good time to do it. I'm taking next week off at my school and I'll be going back the week after.

Message me if you'd like to talk, I'm here for support ????

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
