Packing for Tijuana

Recommended Posts

Okay, I have a ridiculously bad habit of majorly over packing for EVERYTHING.

I leave next Friday, flying from Dallas to San Diego to go for surgery on Saturday. I will return on Tuesday.

Ladies and gentleman... What are the absolute Necessities???

I don't want to end up with a whole bunch of stuff I won't need!

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Comfie pants, comfie tops, slip on shoes, jammies, phone, charger, tablet/iPad and chargers, camera, books if you read, GasX strips, Water flavor packets (propel zero, crystal light, etc), personal toiletries, passport and sunglasses. I did it easily with a small carryon. If you are going to have a drain, pants with pockets are handy to put the bulb in. If not, bring a safety pin. I used a pin to attach the drain to the inside front of my jammies so I didn't worry about rolling over on it.

And don't worry about forgetting something, depending on where you are staying, you can always buy any necessities. Walmart and GNC are right up the street from the Marriott. I ended up buying pedialyte, Isopure and herbal tea bags when I was there. My sister forgot her sunglasses and picked up a pair at Walmart.

It was single bottles from GNC. I was just looking for some way to get some Protein in on the clear liquid stage. Gotta say I was not a fan. Maybe it was because it was so soon postop, but those isopures were the only things that ever made me gag. I bought 2 bottles but couldn't finish either. But some people love em, so.....

chicken broth, herbal Decaf tea, pedialyte and popsicles went down the easiest those first few days. And the drinkable yogurt starting the 4th day was oh so good!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
