My first fill tomorrow

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow I have my first fill. I am so excited! But... I'm also nervous wondering if this will hurt! Did it hurt you guys and did you feel pain with the tightening?

How much do they generally put in for a first fill and do you feel it as being effective?

I am definitely eating less food but does the first fill make a difference?

How many fills did it take you to get to your "point" of comfort for loosing weight?

No pain nor discomfort during the first 3-5 fills.

No prob. ever, swallowing the Water after the fill. Keep to the post-fill instructions. It will be inflamed.

Frustrating time. You'll feel ravenous without much/any restriction- yet. be patient during this time.

Why do some get fills later and some start off with a small fill?

My band was installed empty.

I was told it's because of all the inflammation and swelling from the surgery has to subside, plus my surgeon sewed a flap of stomach over the band to prevent slippage later on. Probably good to not add unnecessary pressure on the stitches until they heal really well.

Once the swelling went down, they started with a small fill. Kind of pissed me off- I was SO hungry!

They allow each fill's swelling/ irritation/ inflammation to go down before another fill & see how you're handling the graduation back to solid foods.

Made sense to me so I went with it

No pain at all here with the tightening / fill.

The numbing needle hurt worse (burn) than anything else.

They only other thing for me was the heeby-jeebies watching a big needle jammed into my tummy. Some PA's aren't very delicate about it. LOL I got used to it and that doesn't bother me anymore.

Good luck!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
