Hi, my name is Morgan and I'm looking into having the gastric sleeve surgery. I have my first consultation with a weight loss surgeon November 25. I'm absolutely at my wits end. I've done every diet I can think of, exercised like crazy, starved myself, you name it, I've done it.

I'm a 32 year old female who at 5'8 weighs 358. :-( My blood pressure is high & I'm scared that I'm going to die young. I've had 2 miscarriages because of my weight. Can anyone offer me words of advice as I go through this process? I know this surgery is a tool, not a quick fix. I dream of taking up running when I'm at a more comfortable weight. I also do several workout dvds at home. I long for the feeling of not carrying around so much weight and having a healthy pregnancy once I reach a healthy weight.

Hi Morgan! You'll find LOTS of good advice on this site. I'm Emily, and I'm a bariatricpal.com addict. What can I say, I spend every spare moment here.

Keep in mind that you'll need to wait a minimum of 18-24 months post op to get pregnant. Other than that, it sounds like you're a good candidate for the surgery. Mine is coming up on Dec. 18th. Keep us posted with your journey! You'll find lots of love here ;)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
