Do Your Vitamins Make You Sick?!?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm 3 weeks post-op and have had no issues with vomiting except when I take my Vitamins. I ordered from Celebrate (Bariatric Vitamins). My first order were chewable vitamins and for a couple of days I had no issues. Now when I take them, they come back up almost immediately, so I ordered them in the pill form (have to take 3 pills). Same thing, as soon as I take them I am immediately nauseous. Yesterday, I took a Zofran right after and it stopped the urge to hurl. Tonight, I didn't take the Zofran fast enough and barely made it to the restroom.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what brand I should try? Preferably only one pill even if it's big.

Thank you for any suggestions!

My doctor recommended a Centrum chewable. While it doesn't taste great, it's not bad enough to make me feel sick at all.

Are you eating a little something first? I absolutely can not take Vitamins on an empty stomach. That being said, I take Nature Made Multi Vitamins with usually no issues.

I can't take them on an empty stomach. I have to eat applesauce or some sort of food with them. If I don't I get sick within 10 minutes

The Bariatric Advantage Vitamins made me extremely nauseous and close to vomiting. Multiple people at my support group experienced the same thing. I have been taking Flinstones Complete chewables but plan to switch over to a food based Multivitamin soon. The Flinstones have what you need in them as long as you take them twice a day. I just don't like that they have chemicals and dyes in them.

Thank you for starting this. I thought it was in my head. I was fine with Bariatric Advantage chewables for about three weeks. Now I just can't do it. It is bit better with food but taking the Vitamins make it impossible to take anything for about six hours so can't get in liquids or Protein. Are there any good chewables that have everything in them?

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
