Vets: How many calories do you eat to lose or maintain?

Recommended Posts

I'm 1 year out and eat between 1000-1200 cals and weight loss has slowed down. I just joined a gym to kickstart me again! I started at 412 and now weigh 247' so I've lost 165 lbs so far, but would like to get down to at least 200.

I'm also 1 year out and my net calories are anywhere from 0-1200 a day, which is largely because on days where I work out a lot, I'm not really hungry so I eat about 800 calories and burn anywhere from 500-1000 over the course of a morning run, an afternoon run, and 2-3 hours of boxing and kickboxing at night. Then on days where I am lazy, I almost always average around 1000-1200 calories of intake and maybe 200 of exercise if I go for a walk. This last month I had a little meltdown because I had 1700 calories one day, which is the most I've had in a day since surgery. My big calorie days are maybe 1400 at most and happen maybe 2-3 times a month and are usually the result of Cookies. I chilled out a little though when I realized that there are far more days where I really don't eat much at all, so if occassionally I manage to have too much, it's not the end of the world.

I hit 100 pounds lost 3 weeks ago and have since been completely stalled between 137-140. I float back and forth between those three numbers and haven't lost a single thing since. I suppose if this is the effort required to maintain, it's going to be miserable to lose my last 8 pounds to goal.

Good luck to you!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
