Dec. Sleevers: What are you eating now? How are you preparing for surgery?

Recommended Posts

I'm tentatively scheduled for Dec. 2 and not required to follow a pre-op diet. Anyone else out there wondering how to eat right now? I don't want to get sick of the Jello and Soup before the surgery if I don't have to.

Any other ways you are preparing for surgery?

Good question!! Just got my date 12/01 and I don't have a plan to follow until just before surgery. My natural plan was to cut caffeine so I won't be withdrawing while in pain-lol. Going to start reducing carbs more and sweets (hopefully cold turkey before the surgery). Looking forward to seeing the other responses ????

I don't plan to change my current routine until time to start pre-op liquid diet - surgery on 12/8, liquid diet to begin 11/24. My current routine consists of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury shakes for Breakfast and lunch, Mon-Fri, one or two on Sat. & Sun., regular dinner and other meals, as low carb as possible (hubby is an insulin dependent diabetic). I drink lots of Water already and my coffee and tea are half regular, half Decaf blends.

I am scheduled for Dec. 2nd, I cut out caffeine a couple months ago in preperation for surgery. My liquid diet starts November 18th. I am starting to follow it during the day M-F, more to try out things I can have on it than for any other reason. I want to make sure I have a variety of things during the liquid phase that I can enjoy and not feel like I am having the exact same thing every day. The only Soup I am allowed on the liquid diet is Tomato and I have never been a huge fan of it so trying out different brands to find ones I like. Good luck to all!

I'm scheduled for December 2nd too!!!

I've got a pre op shake diet starting on 22nd of November with veg and salad allowed.

I've been researching Protein powders and Vitamin powders to use during the first month or so.

I thought green powder added to your daily Water intake would help stop Vitamin deficiency during the time we are pretty much just focused on Protein alone.

My surgery is scheduled for 12/2. My surgeons office gave me a very specific liquid diet to follow for one week. If anyone is interested I can post a copy. It included fat free no sugar added pudding, Soups, yogurts, Meal Replacements, etc.

@@cryssyd3 I would like to see your diet, it's interesting how different each pre-op diet is. Good luck, I am scheduled for the same day as you.

You'll have to zoom in to see it. But this is starting from the Tuesday before surgery to the day before. The day before I can have clear fluids only, WITH sugar. And as much drinks as I want.

I'm on a Pre Op liquid diet for 14 days. At day 8, I can say it's still a struggle, but I'm managing. It seems all Protein shakes or creamed Soups make me feel nauseous. So I'm trying to get it down as best as possible.

The first 3 days of this diet were pure hell and I think the thing I miss the most is chewing my food. Lol

Hi !!!

I was skeeved december 2. So far, I'm still trying to get my 8 cups of water/fluids in, plus all the Protein. I never thought it would be this hard to drink only 8 cups of Water.

Today I used the power aide zero. I believe that helped me tremendously.

So Protein Shakes, chicken broth and I tried for the first time protein pudding! It was great! But after two spoons worth it felt cold in my stomach and I stopped lol

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
