Getting sleeved next week 10/22/14

Recommended Posts

I'm getting sleeved next week and so far, only minor fears... but I'm definitely going through with it.

I've asked the coordinator how soon I can expect to get back to work and I've had different answers

I'm only 54 lbs over weight, but I have had weight issues forever.

I'm wondering if anyone could tell me how long I can expect to be in pain and taking pain pills? I'm hoping 30 days or less.

I at least know that i'm going to be a wimp after this is done. I imagine myself being in pain on the flight back home. Having my car pick me up, then being lugged home, tired, in pain and just sleeping a lot. I hope I'm just imagining this because I want a fast recovery.

The only thing that did make me think about this surgery is I realized that I'm going to have a catheter. OUCH! I know its not that bad, but I do fear it. The cutting, the anesthesia, the recovery, that doesn't scare me much aside from the pain and anxiety. Even losing 80% of my stomach doesn't scare me... just the catheter.

No catheter was used in my sleeve surgery. I don't understand why you would need one. You're supposed to get up and walk as soon as possible after surgery, so why couldn't you use the bathroom? I would definitely question them on this since it's so important to you.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
