My insurance will not cover the surgery at all so I have to go self pay..... My heart is broken.... My husband and I have talked and we actually just bought a new double wide home a year ago and we could use it as collateral to get a loan but man.... Makes it so much harder financially... So now I have a question... Approximately how did it cost for after surgery needs for everyone???? And do u think because insurance won't cover it does that mean if I have complications, will insurance deny any coverage for them??? My heads swimming I'm so upset...

I would find out why they don't cover. Mine did and if you do have complications insurance will not cover that's the big problem. It can get really expensive. With out insurance mine would have been 20,000. Good luck

I went to Mexico and my surgery was $6500. My Surgeon was Dr Sergio verboonen. I could never have paid $20,000.Just a thought

I didn't feel like dealing with insurance, so I self-paid. I didn't want to go to Mexico because I was afraid I would need follow-up care, so I used a surgeon in my city and the fee was $20K. If you have good credit, most doctors accept some form of medical financing so you may not have to pay everything up-front. My doctor also had a form of insurance that was included in the fee that covered any major complications.

In hindsight, I had absolutely no complications and if I had known my surgery would go well, Mexico is a FAR cheaper solution and their doctors are just as qualified as American doctors and often have a lot more experience.

I believe the range is $16,000 - $20,000. If you decide to go self-pay, find a doctor that includes after care and complications in that fee. There are many that do. For example, if you're having the surgery and you a hernia repair, that charge is already incuded...no additional fee. So ask the surgeons to make sure everything else is included in that fee so there won't be any surprise charges. Good luck!

Do you know why you were denied? You can appeal the decision. Many have done that and been successful. I wouldn't give up just yet.

Don't give up - where there's a will there's a way! Just a bump in the road

My insurance had a strict exclusion so I didn't even try for approval here in the states. I went to Obesity Control Center in Tijuana and had a wonderful experience. I had excellent care every step of the way. When I first heard of surgery in Mexico I thought "this is nuts!" (I'm a conservative by-the-book person by nature and not a risk taker). After months and months of research I decided to go to Tijuana. Not. One. Regret. I agree with others - an appeal might be in order too if you can find out why you were denied.

It'll work out :)

I did my preop visit at the hospital last week. I got an estimate of charges and it was 21000. That was just for the hospital part. For the surgery and 1 night.

I believe every program is different. Make sure you ask what the cash pay price is, it may be cheaper. I think they charge between 15-20K where I am getting my surgery at out of pocket but I don't know if that includes anesthesia, etc...

I am self pay and it is 18k for sleeve surgery. That includes EVERYTHING minus your Vitamins and diet. Anesthesia, hospital stay, surgeons fee, insurance for any complications afterwards, and a year of post op visits to my doctor, psychiatrist, nutritionist, and exercise science doc. Every program is different!

I was cash pay. My total for everything was 11000 but that included a hernia repair which if you have insurance it will cover that making your portion 8500. I'm in Texas.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
