Daily water requirement ?

Recommended Posts

Morning. I was wondering do you all include the liquid amount in Protein Shakes in your daily water/liquids requirement? It takes me over an hour to drink a Protein Shake and I'm finding it hard to fit in 64 oz of liquid when I can't drink 30 minutes before or after a "meal.

No my nut wants me to get an additional 64 Oz on tip of the Protein Shake. What I used to do and still do actually is bulk up my Protein shake, use a scoop and a 1/2 and I also add in the Dannon Greek yogurt it's 80 cal and 12g of protein. So I really get a good amount of protein from that one shake that I can sip on all day and I can drink my Water while sipping my shake.

hi AlanaRN,

YES I do. I count all non-caffeinated liquids in my daily 64 oz requirement. I checked with my RN and nutritionist, and they are good with that. I typically have one cup of Decaf coffee per day, and one or two glasses of Crystal Light, so those drinks count to my target.

I add powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein to the crystal light so I get double duty out of one glass of liquid. Unjury contains 21g of Protein in one 27g scoop, and tastes great, so getting enough protein is a snap. I had my VSG on 8/4, and it took me awhile to get up to 64 oz. But I'm there, and you'll get there, too. Hang in there, and best of luck!

Yes, if I drink a premier or EAS premade, it counts toward my 64 ozs. If I put a scoop of Protein powder in my morning coffee, it does not count toward my 64 ozs. These are the guidelines set forth by my program. Most days I put a scoop in my morning coffee and try my best to get in an additional 64 oz. I will say it will get easier. I'm almost 6 months out, I can basically drink normally.

My dietician has us count all fluids, including caffeinated ones ("caffeine will dehydrate you" is a myth and there are plenty of published scientific articles to prove it).

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
