Hi all, I'm Angela. I'm 4 weeks post-op. I had my sleeve on 9/3/14. Lately I have notice that I am irritable, moody and somewhat depressed. Not suicidal depressed but feel down, easily overwhelmed, and have a short fuse. I am very aware that I used food to "feel better" and I am grieving the loss but I think it's more. It is my understanding - that when you eat your stomach releases serotonin (happy feelings). And, when you have most of your stomach removed that the serotonin decreases. Thus, making post-op patients more susceptible to depression. Anyone have knowledge, data, etc with this? What has helped?

Exercising also releases a happy hormones in us. Can you go walking for 10-15 mins a couple of times a day? I know when I workout I feel happy. We have to replace the eating/food with something else and something that is good for us. Remember Legally blonde!!! ????

Could be some of everything you mentioned. I was also warned that for the first couple of months, as you're losing fat rapidly, all the hormones and toxins stored there have to come out as well so there's kind of a flood to the system of all that crap. Makes us moody, crabby and emotional. I'm NOT a crier, but I'd cry at the drop of a hat for the first couple months and my fuse shorter than usual. It got better! Come to think of it, it got MUCH better when I started a regular exercise habit! I'm positively PERKY now for the first time EVER! LOL!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
