Almost finished with requirements, worried about denial

Recommended Posts

Hi! I have one more nut visit on Monday and then I am all set for insurance approval. I am now starting to overthink everything and am worried about not getting approved. I have a 56 BMI, diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. So, on paper I am a great candidate. I just keep thinking insurance will find one reason to say no. I have Aetna and have done the 3 month path. I am sure I'm just worrying for nothing. Anyone else have Aetna and if so, how hard or easy was approval? Thanks in advance!

all set for insurance approval.

@@puttingme1st

fortunately, it sounds like you have plenty of problems/issue to be approved for surgery :)

unfortunately - it sounds like you have plenty of problems/issue to be approved for surgery :(

if your insurance covers all WLS, sounds like you'll be fine

wishing you a new healthier, happier, longer life :)

good luck

I have Aetna and was got my approval about 2 weeks after they submitted. Mind you I had to do a 6 month doctor monitored weight loss program, which I started in February. And then in May I received a letter saying that the hospital my surgery would be at was longer under contract with Aetna. Boy was I bummed, actually more bummed than I thought I would be. But then at the end of July they reinstated the contract with the hospital. So I called the doctor back and started back up from where I had left off. I just had to do the psych eval and then the submitted. I really thought I would be denied at first, and was so surprised when they called me this past Monday to tell me I was approved. My surgery is scheduled for November 3, 2014. I am gonna to tell you what my husband keeps telling me.....if you think negative thoughts negative things will happen. I am a big "what if...." person. It's hard but I am trying to be more positive. Hang in there worrying over things you can't control will drive you nuts!! Good Luck!!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
