Since my surgery on August 26th, I've had problems sleeping. I have sleep apnea, which is one of the big reasons I had the surgery. Before the sleeve I was tired and rarely could stay awake. I have chronic pain issues also, so I take lunesta to help me stay asleep through the night.

Before I would usually go to bed around 10pm, then up by 4 30, 5am (because of pain), I'd take pain med then sleep until time to wake the kids up, plus a couple of naps during the day.

Now I feel somewhat tired, but can't sleep. I go to bed around 10pm (not because I'm sleepy), and every morning I'm up by 3am, (WIDE AWAKE), and can't go back to sleep. Sometimes I'm so tired I force myself to take a nap. I lay awake for a long time, my brain wide open. Then, eventually I can quite my brain enough to dose off. Even then the quality nor the length of time are very beneficial.

Has anyone experienced anything like this?

That seems to be my general state of sleep, although not something that changed with surgery. I typically take melatonin and sometimes a Xanax to help me sleep. Are you taking Vitamins? Is it possible that some of those are messing with your sleep? For instance, I was told to take B12 in the morning because it could keep you awake if taken later in the day.

You JUST had your surgery on August 26th. That was only LAST week. I was told your new sleeve takes at least a month to heal. Please be kind to yourself and give your body time to heal. Rest when you need to. I know turning off your mind is difficult at times. Close your eyes and picture yourself in a place where you feel totally relaxed and comfortable. Concentrate and keep your mind on being in that place, where ever that may be. Take a deep breath through your nose to completely fill your lungs, hold it for a few seconds and then blow it out through only your mouth. Do this several times. I find the concentrating on something else and breathing helps me to relax and help to put my brain in a "shut-down" mode, like a computer.

I was told to take ANY Vitamin D in the morning as it could also interfere with your sleep. I take an herbal supplement to help me sleep. It has melatonin, chamomile and Valerian root.

I take all my Vitamins in the morning before 11am... I think...:huh: I've had a little trouble taking all my meds so I'm not on a schedule anymore. It takes the whole day to get them all in and sometimes not all of them get taken. I do take all my Vitamins though. They may have gotten spaced out later in the day at times. Somedays what and when I take is whatever I think I can stomach at the time. I'll pay more attention to that and see if it helps.

That relaxes me just thinking about it. I'm going to try that right now! Awesome techniques. I've been taught to do something like that before in order to relax myself. I forgot how well it put me to sleep.-_-

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
