Help Reflux

Recommended Posts

Deb and I had surgery Monday. I'm doing great, but deb has been very sick with reflux (hot Water coming back up) and vomiting about 1-2 times a day. She is staying on clear liquids.

She seems to be a little better today, but Friday was real bad.

Congrats on being banded. Sorry to hear that Deb has been sick. What do you think is causing the nausea? I was sick for a few days after being banded, at first we thought it was caused by anesthesia, but later realized it was a bug, because our friends at home all had the same problem. It's a scary thing to be vomiting right after band surgery. I hope that she is feeling better soon.

Frank, is she having reflux all the time or when she lies down? If lying down, try elevating the headboard of your bed. (Get someone else -not recent surgery patient - to lug on bed.) sleeping on multiple pillows will only bend the stomach and make the problem worse. Be sure that she doesn't eat or drink anything close to bedtime. Best of luck to both of you!:D

I'd definitely give the surgeon a heads up if the vomiting continues. Good luck. Reflux is a beast -- surgeone can recommend some remedies at this point in your post-op. elizabeth

Thanks for the advice. The vomiting has stop and the reflux is some better. Deb still has some reflux, but I think it is getting better.

I responded to you in length on your other post. I think there were 3 of them within 5 minutes. United took 8 months to approve me after the first denial. I don't know what point you're at with your insurance company, but try to be realistic, (if you're eligible), it probably won't happen before this year end. Best of luck to you!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
