Prescribed Metabolic Supplements

Recommended Posts

Good evening all,

I was banded 8/12/14 and prior to my surgery I attended a nutrition class hosted by my surgeons office. I was told I would get 5 prescriptions delivered to my house prior to the surgery. I received a nausea cream, painful scar therapy cream, 2 bottles of scar therapy gel, adjustment cream and metabolic supplements.

The mail order pharmacy called and told me to write down instructions for each prescription which I did. Although they only said the supplements would jump start my metabolism for the weight loss. I have been taking these for a week and the side effects kinda stink to be polite. My pill bottle has no name, ingredients, manufacturer, or capsule identifier which normal pharmacies like CVS have to describe the pill color etc on the label. The capsules are green and white with nothing on them so I can check on WebMD etc.

I asked the Physicians Asst last week when I went and showed him the pills and bottle. He said oh they are fine. Has anyone else taken anything like this per their surgeon? I live in DFW.

I never heard of prescribed metabolic supplements.. your Dr or PA should have a better explanation. If you are having issues with them, stop taking them. My Dr. and Nutritionist advised me to eat "real" food.. Protein Shakes and bars only if I cannot get real food . I very seldom use anything like Protein shakes or bars. the point of having surgery is to learn to eat correctly. I was on a metabolic diet years ago which had supplements, shakes, Soup etc. lost weight but felt like hell.

ask more questions, demand answers.

I would never take a pill if I didn't know exactly what it was. And I think it might even be illegal for a pharmacy to give you a bottle of pills without more description of the contents.

I quit taking them and I thought it was illegal as well. A mutual friends father is a pharmacist local where I am and he's told me to hold them for the next time I see him so he'll check it for me. Happy to do so!

I am glad that you stop I think this is an extra way doctor offices have to make some money. i am very careful with those call dietary supplements I stick to my Vitamin. chewable preferably. In the morning I take Multi, Biotin, Vitamin D (I always had a deficiency of D), CQ10 and Calcium. At Night I take Omega 3, as per nutritionist Omega 3 should be taken at night because is better absorbed.

Who was your surgeon and did you go through true results in Richardson, Tx? I had surgery in Nov. 2013 with Dr. Benavides and I didn't receive any meds but my sister just had surgery on Sept. 4 and she did receive same meds as you that's why I was asking.

I'm in Houston. I had Dr. Reilly-true results. I also receive meds delivered to my home. But I was asked if I wanted them. I get an anti-scarring cream for my incisions, a scar erase cream for old stretch marks, a numbing cream to use when I go for adjustments, and a liquid Vitamin. I also take a Centrum silver chewable and the Biotin for hair and nails. In every delivery, there is documentation from the pharmacy with specifics on the meds, what they are and how to use them, as well as a contact number for questions. I also receive periodic calls from them to check on me and make sure any questions I have are answered.

My meds did not come with any documentation and I only heard from the pharmacy one time. When they called and explained briefly the creams, approximate delivery date and of course the cost of meds.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
