Good luck with everything. Don't worry about the sleep study, it's not so bad. They just hook you up with a bunch of wires and then expect you to sleep lol. You will eventually fall asleep, I promise.

sleep study is a breeze if you can get past all the wires, before you know it their waking you up to go home. Good luck!

In my case, I skipped the sleep study. My wife had been complaining for the past few years that I snored and kept her awake. So there was a good chance that I had sleep apnea. When the specialist examined me he wanted to have me take a sleep study. I declined. I said that the condition might disappear with surgery, so if I am having the same problem after surgery, I might consider it. Well I had the surgery and within a few weeks my snoring stopped. Sometimes my wife would wake up in the middle of the night and stare at me intently. I was sleeping so soundly, she thought I was dead and not breathing.

That's interesting that they let you decline it. My insurance didn't give me the option, which I'm glad because with the diagnosis of sleep apnea under my belt my surgery is that much more justified. Honestly I'm not excited about the machine they want to give me but I know it's temporary!

I didn't enjoy the sleep study, just because I have a hard enough time sleeping without all the wires, the different bed, etc. But they were all very nice and did their best to make me comfortable, and I knew it was really important to do. Turns out I stopped breathing 251 times in just 3 hours!

I don't mind the CPAP at all, in fact I actually love it since I sleep better now than I have for years. It's become something very comforting, if that makes sense. I certainly won't be sad to not need it any more after surgery though! :D

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
