Hello. I've had colitis for around 4 years now and now I'm having the worst flare up! I was sleeved on 7-14-14, which overall the surgery was successful but sometimes I wonder why did I do this! I'm unable to take the required dosage for the asacol (3 pills, twice a day) due to the pills being so large. So the doctors gave me a prescription for a fairly new medicine which treats the colitis and causes it to go back in remission - I can also crush the tablets! But unfortunately the pharmacy will not have this in until Tuesday. This diarrhea I'm having is awful and now I'm having headaches too.

I had an appt this past Wed with the nurse practitioner and I was checked into the hospital for 3 days for dehydration. Which was awfuuuuul considering I had to have numerous IV attempts, potassium burning my veins, an upper GI - the dr req I drink at a rate so fast and it caused me to vomit, and another procedure with a scope going down my throat! I feel some what better, far as energy wise but I'm worried the constant diarrhea I'm getting will cause me to become dehydrated again! The DRs basically said my stomach is still swollen and it's no need for additional surgery, which I'm grateful for....but I just wish I knew how to put an end to this. Is there anyone else with gastric sleeve and colitis? How long did it take for you to go back into remission? What do you take that's small enough to swallow and not vomit? Please if you have any suggestions, don't hesitate to respond. Thank you for reading, be blessed. *and sorry for any typos!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
