Hey guys, I'm still in the beginning stages of this journey (I hope it's ok I jumped over here and am asking this question) I keep going back and forth whether or not this is the right decision for me. I am almost 100% positive it is, but in the back of my head, I wonder if I'll regret this decision. I know that my love for food got me to where I am today but I whimper at the thought of going on vacation and not being able to eat "good" (fat!) I'm also scared because I know there's a high divorce rate after the surgery and I already resent my husband at times when I'm on diets and he's eating pizza or god knows what else. Any advice? Has ANYONE regretted their decision to get the surgery? Thanks guys!

My surgeon(s), both of them, are very well aware of my situation. They have prescribed several different anti nausea pills, GERD pills, anti spasmodic pills. The only one that seems to work recently has been the antispasmodic pill, but it makes me really tired. I have had an upper GI as well as an endoscopy, all before my three months were even up. All tests come back positive showing nothing wrong, which is quite frustrating as well. I almost wish they would find something to prove I am not crazy.

I really needed to read this thread at this time . . . surgery is scheduled for 8/13 and I started my pre-op diet today. It's only 11 in the morning and I'm already bored with it and dreaming about dinner! I wonder if I'll be able to do this after the surgery . . . and then the logical side of my brain kicks in and I love the quote "pick your hard". That is my new mantra! Off to drink some more water!

I don't have any advice. Just sending you a virtual hug. Actually, the one thing that comes to mind is a suggestion to give acupuncture a try in addition to whatever you are doing with your surgical team. I've found relief over the years from many ailments, especially those that don't seem to have a cause the doctors can find. Just a thought.

As for hoping they find something - that makes total sense to me! Get well friend!

I was sleeved on 7/15/14 and for the first two nights when I was in pain, couldn't sleep, and spitting up. I told myself in my head "Why did you do this yourself?" Even now three weeks out still in the puree stage...with weight coming off. I still have feelings of regret that pops up. Especially when I want to eat something I can't eat (craving salad like crazy) or when I see people around me eating anything they want with not a care in the world. It makes me mad. LOL I haven't gotten to the point where I'm like I love my sleeve. It was either this or keep going up in the 300s.

My relationship with my husband isn't great right now but we go through spurts like this often where it's great and then really bad. I was actually pretty thin when I met him 12 years ago (135lbs) and then gained all of my weight after we started dating (cw 206) we went out to eat a lot and I was super comfortable. I asked him if he thinks I should get the surgery and he said if it'll make me happy, then do it but only if I'm ready for the lifestyle change. I'm hoping our marriage will make it through but I also don't want to not get the surgery out of fear. If it won't survive a surgery, then it wasn't worth surviving me being fat either.

Have you tried Reglan? Though I have done great with this surgery I had 9 months of nausea and vomiting when pregnant. The Reglan did offer some relief during the second pregnancy. Ask your doc about it.

I am very happy with the sleeve and feel it has really helped me make positive changes in my life for a healthier life. I don't regret having the surgery one bit but to be honest, that first two weeks after surgery was a bit difficult and I kept thinking, WTF have I done to myself. LOL Of course it got easier day by day and once I could start eating food I knew I had made the right choice. I am so happy I had the surgery and would do it again if I had to. I do wish I lost weight a little more quickly as I see some others have but I realize we are all different and we all lose at a different rate. For a 59 yr old I think I'm doing okay. I don't miss that 60 pounds I've lost and can't wait to lose the next 60,

Yes, I have tried Reglan, that is one of the medinces I am currently on along with Zofran, and Levsin. I tried Carafate as well, but that didnt seem to help.

Omg I'm so glad there's someone else out there having the same thoughts noe I've lost weight on my own before and I didn't keep it off as a result in what I like doing and the thought of me not being able to have a nice drink every now and again and having a slice of pizza and some wings all the things I like even a salad a sand which idk I'm starting to get depressed I'm not worrying about divorce BC we don't go thru that everyone gets to eat what they want

At 9 months out, I can eat anything I want, just in smaller quantities. I absolutely don't miss eating until I'm miserable!

I don't regret the decision at all. I will say however, that the entire time I was going through the process (all 6 months of the program plus the couple extra I had due to scheduling issues) I was all like "Do I need this? I've lost 70 lbs before.. why can't you do it now?" The whole time. Until I was actually on the books scheduled for the surgery - then s#!t got real. I rationalized that I could quit anytime. But I never did quit, because I think deep down I knew I was not going to be able to keep it off without help. I wish I would have done it before I tipped the scales into diabetes.

Yeah, when we were hunters and gatherers, there could be long intervals between meals and stocking up on available food required larger stomachs....(I watch alot of Animal Planet)...... . Now, there's a food joint every ten feet. We simply just eat too much, too often and then just sit around stuffed - getting fat. (oh yeah, I forgot the part about how we don't have to actually chase down the food anymore).

So just call me the "Engineer" (ie: Prometheus) Now if I could just figure out how to make these mods carry over to the next generation.
