My nutritionist said Protein and fruit or veggie every meal. I'm a little over 3 months out. I eat 2-3 oz of protein then my fruit or veggie. I take 25-30 minutes to eat , 3 x a day. No Snacks unless I don't feel well from my medicine. No protein supplements or shakes.< /p>

I found a good article/blog about this with a table of the energy density of various foods at: http://oliakcenter.com/blog/what-to-eat-after-weight-loss-surgery/ The ideal food choices after weight loss surgery are foods that are mechanically filling (solid high Protein foods like chicken, fish, beef), and foods that have a low energy density (fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy). Good luck! Eat more chicken and less veggies for lunch to feel full - and don't forget to drink your Water before and after :)

Great article and spot on. I love veggies and fruits but for now I rarely have them and eat more denser Proteins like fish chicken beef turkey cheese eggs. Veggies and fruits are hard to get it down and doesn't satisfy me for sure. And I love my Protein Shake which I have every day but I def stay away from smoothies. Too much sugar in them.

Wow! This is such great information! I just recently started using an app to keep track of my foods and it is helping immensly. I knew I wasn't getting enough Protein but now I know I'm not for sure. I generally only am getting 40-50g. It is good to hear that protein will help me stop being so hungry all the time. It's like I go through phases where I'm more hungry and times when I'm not but combating that with protein, and Water is great to know. As for calories I typically get about 600-800 in a day. Is that too much? I'm glad that 5 oz. doesn't seem like too much since I was very worried about that and I'm glad to have what my doctor said confirmed that it's unlikely that I'm stretching my pouch. I also didn't know that you could take too long to eat. I never have that problem as I tend to eat too fast (10-15 minutes) and I'm trying to stop this bad habit. It used to make me sick when I ate fast but now it just can be uncomfortable which reminds me to slow down. Thanks for all of the great help!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
