Shooting chest tightness rather than vomitting

Recommended Posts

I just wana check in to see if this is normal. When I am working to get in some chicken puree or fish puree, the dry foods will cause me to have extreme chest tightness and pure agony. I have to stand up and stretch, pound my chest, bend, and move until it calms down, about ten minutes.

In a way, I wish it would just come up rather than explode my body from within. Is this a normal sensation when eating a food that needs extra work to get down? (Like adding a dressing)

My nutritionist advised us to be very careful with "dry" foods - i.e. cooked chicken (cook it in broth), add fat free mayo or greek yogurt to chicken and tuna salad….What she said would happen is what you are experiencing. I had chicken salad yesterday and it got stuck. Realized how right she was.

You need to add some moisture to it, and I cheat and add a sip of Water.< /p>

Okay then, I guess I am correct in interpreting the sensations. I've started adding 1-2 ounces of dill dip to my meals and it's been a tremendous help. Recipe: http://proteinartist.com/2014/07/greek-dill-dip-3-25-grams-protein-per-ounce/

It's definitely food getting stuck. I had the same issue with tuna even though I loaded it down with light mayo. I thought I was going die the pain was so bad. I thought I wasn't chewing it good enough but I tried to finish it the next morning and had the same reaction no matter how much I chewed. I don't want to experience that again so I am staying away from any canned meats like chicken or tuna.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
