Afraid I'm not gonna lose

Recommended Posts

I am three weeks post op. I lost ten pre surgery and ten since surgery. I read other peoples' posts and they've lost much more or faster or something. I'm 5'1" and weigh 216. I am following all my post op instructions to the best of my ability. Have others had this fear?

One concern is that I had my thyroid irradiated and I've been on synthroid ever since, but my dose has never been stable. I'm wondering if the thyroid issues would hold me back from losing.

At work there was an employee who had bypass and lost a lot of weight very quickly. So everyone is comparing me to her-- not in a mean way. They're trying to be encouraging. But in my head I'm thinking, "what if I don't lose the weight like she did?"

3 weeks out seems to be a very common time to worry about if we will lose or not. Almost everyone is afraid of that. I was, too, but at 8 months out I'm down 130ish pounds. It goes by really fast, so don't worry, you will lose! Because you have less to lose than others, your losses may not be as dramatic, but as long as you follow your surgeon's eating plan, the losses will come! :)

Google or search on Bariatric Pal for "three week stall." It happens to almost everyone.

Not kidding.

I'm still preop but I wonder if it is kind of like comparing when babies will walk or talk or stand up. They will all do it, each in her own time. I'm actually writing myself some notes now to open when I get there....I might not want to read what I wrote when I'm stalling, but it might help me remember the big picture/long term....

Hang in there! You did all the stuff you needed to preop and you can do the postop too!

These comments are good & I hope you are encouraged by them. The one thing I would add is educate the people around you what the difference is in the various bariatric surgeries. Tell them yours is slower & that it is intended to be that way. Good luck with your journey & don't allow people to get you down.

Slower weight loss coupled with great exercise = LESS loose, hanging skin. I'd say that is a huge plus, not a negative thing. Keep pushing, keep your head up, exercise, and throw out that scale. Today. If you're like most of us, you probably have clothes in different sizes that weight gain prevented you from wearing. Take out the next smallest size and try it on maybe once per week to see how it fits. The scale can be such a terrible and discouraging thing. Use clothes to monitor your progress instead. Best wishes to you.

My "three week stall" has gone on for a month. I've lost 5 pounds in the last four weeks, averaging 650 calories per day, walking 4 to six miles per day. I haven't the energy to run, jog or swim. Meeting with nutritionist today with a lot of questions.

I'm back from my nutritionist who has "ordered" me to up my calorie intake to not less than 900/day and to specifically up my carbs, especially before exercise. I'll try it before tomorrow's 5 mile walk around Stone Mountain with my wife.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
