Lose with Mannamay

Hello Everyone! Okay, since I am getting really close to my medical consult (5 days away), I figured I would start my own journal. Honestly, starting to get nervous and the way I look at it is, I should not be nervous, I am strong and I have my guard up. On that note, I have the right to be nervous, but I have a hard time letting my guard down. I am constantly confusing my emotions.

I am going to use this thread to post my updates, possibly some photos, and how I feel in general. I have some before photos. I will post them soon, probably right before the surgery. I was supposed to have my medical consult on May 10th, but the kiddos had some stuff at school scheduled which I just found out about, so I had to change my sppointment and now it is April 27th. Usually the doctor that I am seeing will preform the lap-band 2 weeks from the consult which would throw my surgery into the 2nd week of May. So, soon I will be a bandster for life. YEAH!!! My DH has all of the sudden become very supportive. He has always been supportive, but now he is saying he is willing to go with me to the appointments because he wants to know whats going on and not be suprised, which is great! I would like him to go and know everything as well so I don't have to explain anything. Okay, so long for now, will post again soon. Thanks for listening.

Welcome Amanda,

You sound like you have a good head on your shoulders.

You SHOULD be so excited.

I wish I would have heard about lapband years ago.

My outlook on life is so much brighter now.

Just going out in public (which my weight never stopped me from doing)

and knowing that I am not getting stared out helps me so much.

I always felt like announcing everywhere "there are all sizes of people in the world!! Get over it !!".

Best of luck,

edie

Mannamay, How lucky for you...I go for my consultation of 4/30/07...I am so excited for me and you!! Please keep me posted on what is going on w/ you...

I'm not quite sure what to expect with the consultation that I have on Monday, but hopefully my stuff will be just as quick as yours. I do know that I have to attend 2 psych sessions and 2 nutrition sessions, beyond that, I'm not sure what else to expect...Good Luck!!

Hiya Edie and Perry. Yes Edie, I am very excited, my nerves are a little better than they were earlier. Don't know why I get that way. Anyway, The stares going down the street, I guess thats okay, don't know yet, as of right now, I get the old men starring at me that look like they are about 1 cheeseburger away from a heart attack...EWWW, LOL! We will see how that changes when I am 100 lbs. lighter.

Perry, hey, yes I will let you know the progress. As far as I know, all's I have to do is (1) Psych Consult and (1) Nutritional Consult. I will find out for sure Friday. I want to know how your consult goes as well. After my appointment, I will post information from the visit to keep everyone posted. Thanks!

Hiya Everyone---

Here's an update:

Doc's office called on Wednesday and told me today's appointment would have to be rescheduled for another day, so I was bummed. I told them I would have to get back to them about it. In the meantime, they called back and said they had an opening on Thursday and would I like to take it? HELLO?!?! Of course...so I went yesterday and this is the scoop.

I have to start my pre-op diet on Monday April 30th for two weeks. High Protein, low-carb as much as possible. This mainly to help shrink the liver which I expected. Then, on the day before my surgery, I have to drink nothing but Clear liquids all day and clean out my bowels with Magnesium of Citrate. Oh YEA! Its going to stink at my home...lol. Anyway, here is the biggest obstacle I am going to face and I need to do it for all the many and right reasons....I have to quit smoking or the doc will not operate. I am not really upset that I have to quit smoking because I have been wanting to for a while, but I am so weak in that area, it has been really hard and I know I need to find something to keep my mind off the smoking thing. Maybe start doing puzzels when I feel the urge or take a walk. What is really cool is my mom and husband are going to quit with me, so there is a lot more support by them doing that. We can all get healthy, which is awesome.

My dietician said that the Herbalife shakes will be fine after the surgery, well, after my Clear Liquids, I can continue the Herbalife. Thats nice because I like the way they taste and they do fill me up. Starting this pre-op diet and quitting smoking is a lot to handle all at once. Please pray that I make it thru this. I don't have doubts about me doing this, I just wonder what life is going to be like not smoking and not eating the way I used to. It kinda scares me because what is life all about not smoking or eating those big Thanks Giving dinners????? I have lived my life around my habit and now I have to cut off that old life at the hip bone. So, I do ask for everyone's support with this please.

Oh, by the way, the May 14th surgery date is tenative at this point. The docs office still has to get my Psych report and lab report to make that date official. I will have those two things done by next week, so that date should be okay unless something out of my control happens. Anyway, I will let you know how my Psych visit goes and if my labs were okay later. Thanks for reading my vents.

Okay, the May 14th date is no longer tenative, it is OFFICIAL!!! I have to be at the hospital at 6am and should be getting the surgery around 8am. Wish me luck, not too much longer to go. I am really excited and nervous at the same time. I also had my Psych eval done today and what is funny is my Psych doc said that I was not crazy and I have his blessing on paper. So, cool huh? Picked up all my meds, so we are good to go in that depatment. Doc gave me 1 pint of Lortab, Heparin for two weeks, and Pheneragan Suppositories. Plus a binder and Magnesium. I have been trying to stack up on what is really needed right now, like the broth and Jello. Anyway, all is going as well as can be expected. Will check back in soon. Take care everyone!!!

Your day is almost here! Good Luck to you. You have been doing very well with your weightloss so far. Keep up the excellent work!

Hi Afrykanvyolet and thanks, my weightloss is here and there. I weighed the other day and had lost 2 lbs so far on pre-op but then TOM showed up and I have been very, and I mean, very bloated. We are talking full blown PMS. My DH says that he is glad he is out of town...lol. Anyway, I am hoping the morning of the surgery I will be able to weight in a lot less than what I started with which is the 247. We will see, I will definately keep all of ya'll updated. Take care!

I was banded yesterday and I am feeling okay other than the fact that I feel like I have been hit by a truck. Well, I noted how my day went in the May 2007 Bandsters forum. You can read it there. Take Care and Good Luck to the ones that are being banded today (JENNYC724 & Losin'It) I hope you are doing well. Also, good luck to all the ones that are to be banded in the upcoming months. To all the ones that have already been banded, hope all is well and congrats.

Mannamy....Herbalife is a good product but they are pretty short on Protein for wls patients.....only 9 grams/serving. There are many really good ones on the market that have 23-35 grams in them. If you have trouble getting in your 80-100 grams/day, you might try some of them later on.

Best wishes to you!! Hope your wls journey is a life-changing as mine has been.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
