Want to help Spouse

Recommended Posts

I am looking for some good advice to help my wife with lap band. She just recently had the procedure done and I want to support her in any way that I am possible.

First I want to say to yr wife, how blessed she is to have a husband who wants to give her encouragement and support. My only advice is to get rid of anything in the house that may be of temptation to her in regards to sugar items, cake, candy, bread, Pasta. Just keep encouraging her, tell her she looks good especially when you see the lbs just melting off of her. Remember food has been a buddy of hers and most of us used food for comfort - now you become her comfort and let her share her heart with you...don't give her solutions, just listen - that's the key - listen and understand...that's the best advice I can give.

Wow, she is a lucky lady to have you! One great way of supporting her is by being here and seeking knowledge and advice. Does she come here as well. The other poster gave you some great advice. Also, don't be the "food police". I don't know about other bandsters, but when someone says something to me like "should you be eating that" that just makes me want to shove more in my mouth. Just be there for her. When she is doing well, praise her, tell her how wonderful she is doing. When she goes through tough times, listen to her, hug her and offer support when you can. Maybe you can research some new, yummy yet healthy recipes that the two of you can try together in the kitchen.

Bless you,

Ditto on getting any tempting foods out of the house. Eat what she eats (but more of course) would be very helpful too.

If she can, walk away from your house this evening for 7 minutes and then walk back. If she is not exercising yet help get her going SLOWLY.

you are very sweet ,

edie

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
