I'm 9days post op and am FINALLY feeling like I can put stuff in my new tummy! Not much, mind you. But better than the last 8days when I couldn't even get Water to stay. I'm still burpy and gassy. But I found that as long as I sit up for good 30 minutes, it actually feels OK.

Hope everyone else is doing well! Have a great weekend coming up.

I am so happy to see this post, I am 1 day post-op and very bubbly, I can't really call them burps, it is just air that creeps up my throat instead of burping its way out. I am half way through the day and have had 4 oz Water and 2 oz chicken broth, and maybe 1 oz of clear Jello. I feel like I have eaten a mega dinner and just taking my sips is difficult. I am staying with it and will soldier on! Come on 9 days postop! I return to work on day 10 so I want to feel somewhat normal by then :-D

I'm 5 days out and I totally feel you, I know I'm getting enough liquid, but the Jello is a no go so far, my.sleeve. does not like it. So I'm sticking with Water broth popsicles and Isopure drinks.< /p>

I'm 11 days post surgery. I'm having no problem with Water, but Protein Shakes still fill me up. I get in maybe two Protein shakes spread out over the day. About the only other thing I eat are brothy Soups (just the liquid from Tomato or clam chowder) and V8. Maybe 2-3 oz of Soup and I feel full. The soups are nice because I can find them fairly easily at restaurants and it maintains a semblance of normalcy.

I get to move on to purred food soon. I'll probably just add scrambled eggs and finely diced chicken mixed with broth or gravy. I should be able to get enough protein there to back off of the shakes a bit.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
