Numbness after Banding? Severed Nerves??

Recommended Posts

Well I didn't mess with my belly since the surgery (Monday April 16th), but as of yesterday I took a shower and took the gauze off. A little later in the day my stomach itched, so I went to scratch it.. noticed about 4inx3in spot near my port incision is completely numb. I'm guessing it's been that way since surgery but I had not noticed it. So today, still numb as can be. Anyone else have this happen? I assume it's just severed nerves.. any idea if I'll get the feeling back, if I should be worried, etc??

It only bothers me because it itches occasionally, but scratching doesn't help.

Let me know if you've experienced this!!

I have regained some feeling in my numb-zones. I have a lower zone form my c-section, too. I was curious if these are altered by plastic surgery later on.

On the bright side, fills are downright pleasant.

Welcome to the club!

Yes, I figure I won't feel fills at all if I stay this way.. Just wanted to make sure this is a common severed nerve thing and not something going wrong!

I have the belly numbness but I also have numbness down my hips on the outside area. It goes about 1/2 down my thigh. Anyone else have this? Sometimes it's itchy and sometimes it kind of aches, but to the touch it's aways numb.

I had thigh/hip numbness from sleeping somtimes. Completely unrelated to the band, but related to being overweight. I think that's a symptom of diabetes as well.

Glad to know I'm not alone with belly numbness, was not something I ever read about so I did not expect it!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
