Hi! I have to do the psych eval this coming week. I was just wondering what types of things everyone had to do for their eval? Thanks!

Karen

really they're just asking you a bunch of questions to make sure you know this surgery is just a tool and that yo have support in place to help you just be honest and you have nothing to worry about :) Good luck

Hi - my eval was very simple about 20 questions, no psych tests. During the discussion, I must have voiced my hesitation on being able to be successful. She recommended additional therapy which I agreed to do and I'm so glad I did. I'm going to continue with my therapist after surgery-she is wonderful.

I had a 300 question test then met with the psych doctor. Really 300 questions. All they did was ask me the same few questions 300 different ways. They want to know if you do drugs, drink too much or have mental problems. Ex: hearing voices in your head, objects talking to you or you think you are a god or something. Kinda weird, I told the doctor, "no matter how many times you ask me, I am not a drunk, druggie or mentally impaired." He laughed and I passed with flying colors. I do get it though, if someone had these issues this surgery may not be the best thing at the moment.

Mine was a ton of questoins by the psych doctor and then another 300 written questions.. long, but easy. You'll do fine, it seems overwhelming, but it is very nice to be done! :)

Mine was very easy. She asked me questions about if I eat when I'm stressed, bored, angry, tired, or any other reasons besides hunger. She wanted to know about what kind of support I have. She wanted to make sure that I knew just what I am getting myself into and that I didn't think that this was going to be an easy way out, but that I had to do a lot of work. Some people have had to do a written test, but not me. We talked for about 30-45 mins and that was it. Just answer honestly and you should do fine.

I saw my regular psych (treated for depression and bipolar) and it was easy-peasy. He just talked to me about my medical history and my family medical history. He didn't really talk about the surgery at all. I think every doctor is completely different. There's not a standard protocol to follow I guess.

I had to explain the surgery to her, what I knew was required of me after surgery, was I willing to exercise, have I ever been suicidal, why I'm wanting surgery...and answered some questions on paper

My psych eval was long like 3hours long ugh!!!

They basiclally asked about my family history, why did I want the surgery and what am I planning to do after surgery to maintain..Asked if I felt guilty after eating like did I wanna harm myself because I ate too much. Now I dont know about anyone else and Im not the one to judge but I was thinking in my head like hell no I feel good when I eat lol thats the problem!!! But for real they just wanna make sure youre mentally ready for this transition and they had me fill out a personality questionnaire like 40 pages....all in all it went well..I had a friend who didnt pass her psych eval because she loves ice cream and she told em that and they felt like it was her weakness and wouldnt allow her to pass the eval until another visit was scheduled so beware of what you reveal to the psych doc they take everything into consideration...

youll be fine!! good luck

also a friend of mine suggested that after surgery the surgeons should recommend counseling because its def a reality check and I agree...

My surgeon recommended that I continue with the support groups after surgery. I am having my psych evaluation on August 14. I had to fill out a 300 question booklet. A friend of mind stated that she failed the first time because she is depress and bipolar.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
