One week post-op! WOO HOO!

Recommended Posts

Week one is behind me!!! WOO HOO!!!! It can only get better from here. I am so exited for my Dr. appointment tomorrow, to get my bandages and staples removed and add some more foods to my list. I am ready!!

The hardest part for me has been sleeping. Since I am a side sleeper, I have had to sleep in a Lazy-boy chair. It has been rough, but I finally had a break through last night. I got in four mini naps, as I call them compared to 2 the previous days. It is getting easier every night and I am sleeping longer. I'm trying to move on to my side a little more every night. I also go upstairs when I take my showers and try the bed and see how long I can stand it. I don't want to be in pain needlessly I think pressure points wake me up at night more than the abdomen. I'm doing well in that area.

My surgeon uses two staples on the outside for each incision. His personal choice instead of surgical tape. I get those out tomorrow not the inside ones.

I've been told they do not hurt. They are cut with a special tool and each end removed. Two people have verified this. I'm not worried.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
