Starting Bowel Prep tomorrow

Recommended Posts

Well, the doc and I finally decided on the bypass over the sleeve. My surgery date is this coming Thursday. It’s unbelievable to me that less than 45 days ago I had my first consultation about weight loss surgery and now BAM!! Here we go….

I start the bowel prep tomorrow, and man…I so am not looking forward to it. I don’t have the luxury of taking the day off from work (as I’m taking almost all my vacation time for the recovery), so I’ve got to suck it up and down that stuff between 10am – Noon. An entire gallon of it!! And of course making sure I have a beeline to the crapper. That and the fact I’m done eating solid food for...well, I guess 3 week after the surgery.

It’s funny the relationship I have with food. I’m having real remorse about not eating. Not that I’m hungry, just, not being able to eat with my family. I can deal with not eating, but I think I’ll have a tuff time watching my family eat “real food” while I have my bowl of Jell-O…sigh

Anyway, it’s what we have to go thru though. It’s what’s required…damnit ;)

I hope I can get through tomorrow without any bathroom accidents….YIKES.

Jason congratulations on your decision to get healthier.

May I suggest you wear a Depends or something like it just in case you do have an accident. At least if it does happen your clothes won't get ruined.

Take it easy and be strong.

The best to you on your surgery.

Have you done the bowel prep before? If no, you may not realize that it will be almost impossible to make it to the bathroom... I sat on the toilet most of the time I was drinking it -- had NO control.

If you've had it before, you know what to expect. But, if not, I'd suggest really considering taking that one more day off because you don't want to go through the bowel prep at work and possibly have a very embarassing experience.

I have to do bowel prep for my surgery as well. Except I have to drink a bottle of magnesium citrate. I have drank it before and spent the whole day in the bathroom. The stuff you are having to drink is way more powerful. Have a good book to read because you will be in the bathroom a while. On a happier note, good luck with your surgery and recovery.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
