Abdominal Binder & Band to Gastric Bypass

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, my name is Jen. Just curious as to how many post op folks used the Abdominal binder after WLS? Also, I'm going from the band to Gastric Bypass. How many of you had the same revision in one surgery and do you believe your recovery was longer/more painful? I'm a single mom of a 15 year old boy. After my 2 night stay in the hospital, I'm on my own at home. Is this doable?

I had the binder but didn't use it that much once I came home. It was uncomfortable when it pushed into my boobs.

I'd recommend a body pillow. It helps to hold it against you when you get up and down. I think it is doable to do it on your own. It was nice to have someone there but I could get up and down on my own when I had to.

I havent had the revision yet but I used the binder for a few weeks, I had to cut it down when I lost some weight. It helped me keep my muscles tight and brace myself while getting up. I had a 4 year old at the time and she stayed with me the whole time I was at home recovering. I think you will do fine by yourself, I would recommend telling someone you might need help during the day and have their number on hand. Since you will be alone make sure you get all your fluids and Protein in. Good luck!

I had a gastric bypass I spent 4 days in the hospital and I had a 4 hour exploratory lap the morning after because I had a small bleeder. My husband had to go back to work the day after I got home, he is a Trucker Driver and he could only get 7 days off. So I was alone for 18 days before he returned. We made sure I had everything I needed before he left. It was hard but I made it my surgery was on April 9th 2014. I have a body binder but it is too uncomfortable for now I give it another month and it should be fine.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
