Do laundry ahead of time. And vacuuming. Carrying baskets and such up stairs was rough.

Unless your going to have someone at home with you the first few day make sure u have everything u need sitting on your counter where u can reach it easy. You don't want to bend to much. I drank Water and motts for totts apple juice and that was pretty much it the first few days.

These are the things I was glad to have post-op:

- my heating pad for all the internal gas and incision pain

- a variety of liquids to sip on (apple juice, broth, tea, Powerade Zero)

- My pain meds

- liquid Tylenol (for weaning off the pain meds)

- My recliner (I couldn't sleep laying down flat for several weeks post-op, it put way too much pressure on my abdomen)

- Pepto Bismol (for the intestinal gas and diarrhea)

- Netflix (you can't do much so it gets boring sitting around haha)

Best of luck to you! :)

These are all great suggestions! Every bit of information helps. @ I don't think I could live without Netflix pre or post op lol

Gas X melts were the greatest. they melt on your tongue and helped with the gas pains a lot. also liquid Tylenol.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
