First Fill, surgery was 1 year ago!

Recommended Posts

Hello Hello! I had my very first fill today. I had surgery a year ago this summer and never felt like I needed a fill. My doctor wanted me to come in 3 weeks after surgery but I didn't feel like it was necessary. It's been a year and today they put 3cc in my band, which had nothing before. Is this typical? Not needing a fill for so long and then suddenly needing one? I've lost 60lbs without one, IDK... just looking for some advice on how to deal with the new fill! :) Thanks!

What do you mean by looking for advice on how to deal with a fill?

It is unusual to go a year without a fill but there are a few here who have done so but I believe most have plication with their band.

Why did you get a fill? Did you stop losing weight or were you hungry often?

Need more info? Are you experiencing anything new from your fill?

Yeah I don't know what you mean by looking for advice on how to deal with a fill. 3cc isn't all that much so it won't be a huge difference. Just eat slowly and chew your food well and you should be fine.

I am a year out too and have only 1/2 cc in my band with no fills. I was filled in surgery with to much and twice had to have all but the 1/2 cc removed, a year ago at surgery my Dr. put initially 4 cc in band but did not tolerate. I go today for ck up. I have lost 69 pounds and at goal weight but sometimes not everyday I find myself hungry in between meals. I am scared to death of a fill because of experience after surgery in May 2013. I eat very clean very little carbs if any and lots of fish & chicken. I like reading posts about others experiences with their fills.

I guess because I haven't dealt with a fill at all. For instance I've never had any discomfort or anything stuck and a few minutes ago I was eating and I was having extreme discomfort. I've been fine this last year and then BAM I felt like I was able to eat more and I wasn't feeling full so I felt that I needed one.

As you lose weight you will lose fat around your stomach and your band...That could be the change :)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
